Nomad (2023)

Nah. I wanted to like this game, but this one had me wanting for it to be over pretty quickly. It looks fine, it *is* a fairly serene time (mostly), bit there was just something about the grapple mechanic that felt off to me. I think it was the fact that you have to be very close the the "anchor points" to be able to grapple at all, it would have been much, much better if you could have simply explored freely and climb whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted. Some of the places that you are actually able to grapple are a little frustrating at times. It's all trial and error. The fact that I got stuck inside of the terrain within the first few minutes of the game, forcing me tor restart and then re-watch the unskippable opening cutscenes did NOT help. As a proof of concept, this is a pretty solid game overall. It's free and short, so give it a go if it looks good to you, it just wasn't for me.

Needs more improvements. Nomad is a first-person platformer. There's no direct story or dialogue, but the gimmick is to awaken a giant. The platforming is good with the magical rope, but the controls and camera sensitivity are very rough. The game doesn't even save your settings for each stage.

Peaceful atmosphere, pleasant music. Low-poly visuals are charming, too. Some clunkiness in the controls, however, and I'm not sure the checkpoints function as intended. If you liked this sort of grappling parkour mechanic, you might like A Story About My Uncle, which is perhaps a more refined example of this sort of playstyle with more options for controlling your falls. A commendable student project nonetheless, I hope they got good marks. :]
