OverRider is a creative blend of side-scrolling beat-em-up and roguelike mechanics centered on hijacking enemies to steal their movesets, praised for its varied enemy types, diverse roguelike upgrades, appealing visual style, and reasonable price for the gameplay offered. Players note the core gameplay loop is engaging and fun with good replayability, though the game suffers from rough edges including hitbox issues, some jank, unclear skill descriptions, and occasional accessibility concerns like screen shake effects that can cause headaches. The story remains unfinished as it's in Early Acces
A unique side scrolling Beat 'em Up x Roguelike game set in a cyberpunk world. It's Early Access and the story is WIP so I can't comment on the story. The gameplay is original though. You start as a basic character, but can hijack, i.e. the namesake "Override", every enemy in the game and gain their movesets. Some roguelike buffs at the end of each stage even buff you for doing so. Speaking of the roguelike buffs, they're very varied. You can make an unbreakable tank, make attacks trigger AoEs, summon swarms of drones to attack things for you and son on. The override-able enemies are also varied, there's a mix of ranged and melee with different flavors, Overall recommended and a fun ride, especially for the price.5 found this helpful
Pretty fun roguelike beat-em-up. Played it for quite a bit after initially getting started. There is some jank regarding certain hitboxes and enemies, as well as translations and clarity in skills and such, but overall, the experience is good. The music also adds to make the experience more fun. Story is pretty barebones, but that's not what most people are here for, even if I appreciate there being a semblance of one. I've almost maxed out the meta-progression tree and feel like I could probably just wait for the next few updates at this point. The runs are anywhere from 30 minutes to close to an hour depending on room RNG and player skill, so it's pretty easy to just pick up and play while losing track of time when you're wanting to unlock stuff. Gameplay is, well, a beat-em-up with a few fighting game inputs to combo into, which can be pretty satisfying if you are familiar at all with that. The main gimmick is also that you can "OverRide" enemies and take control of them, which is pretty cool, too. I will say that once I found an enemy to utilize, I tended to stick with that one a lot rather than trying to OverRide others, which can be a bit of an issue. I also do think the up…2 found this helpful
OverRider is still a bit rough around the edges, but it's definitely got the potential to become a great beat 'em up.2 found this helpful
Fun early game and looks good. Low price as well so not that bad. If they tweak the difficulty or balance it out more they might be able to convert the negative reviews. It just boils down to if you like these type of games or not. I love how it feels and looks.2 found this helpful
I'm not really sure what everything does but it is fun. I do want to mention that even with screen shake at 0, I still get a headache when playing this game, which I'm pretty sensitive to (along with motion blur). Could be just me though.1 found this helpful
