About Planet's Edge

✦ AI summary

Assemble a crew, customize your ship, and scavenge the galaxy for alien technology to reconstruct the mysterious Centauri Drive and restore Earth from oblivion. Navigate dynamic space combat, manage resources, negotiate with alien factions, and solve puzzles across dozens of star systems in this open-ended sci-fi RPG where every choice matters.

When the alien craft entered Earth’s solar system, the human race was alive with excitement. However, when it was accidentally fired upon, the consequences were dire. In a burst of electromagnetic energy, the entire planet Earth disappeared, leaving its gravity well and the moon behind.

In this open world, sci-fi role-playing game, you are part of the Moon base team on a desperate mission to bring Earth back. You must assemble and equip your crew, customize your ship and set out in search of unique parts to create the Centauri Drive, a device your team hopes will reverse the electromagnetic phenomenon that swallowed Earth.

Travel between dozens of stars, harvest resources to repair and upgrade your equipment, meet and negotiate with friendly (and hostile) aliens, and do whatever it takes to stay alive and bring Earth back.

Planet’s Edge features:
  • An open-ended story driven by the player
  • Dynamic, real-time spaceship combat
  • Mining, trading and puzzle solving
  • Turn-based ground combat
  • Customize and upgrade your ship for any situation
  • Select your crew (or clone a new one) and equip them for success

Classic PC game that I spent hours on as a kid. I never finished it back then so I'm glad to have the opportunity to play it again! Edit: updating my review now that I finished the game. I doubt I would have been able to finish this without the clue book (google for it), and it probably explains why I got stuck as a kid. The clue book should really be provided along with the manual because there are a handful of occasions where the steps required to progress are not intuitive. It is quite a time consuming game, I actually liked this aspect to the game. That the universe was there for you to explore and discover, scanning planets for scenarios and minerals. However since you have spent a lot of time discovering, this means you have less patience when you come up against a road block. Anyway, I'm glad to have finally completed the game!

Can't recommend this game enough. Played it back in the 90s, so expect 90s style PC graphics, menus and controls. Controls are maybe a bit clunky considering today's gaming control scheme. Other Aliens, Robots, Entities will get in the way if trying to move, but that came with the territory back then. WAY before it's time! Before No Man's Sky, Mass Effect, Starfield. Action / RPG / tactical(?) / turn-based(?) / Space Combat / Land combat game all wrapped up in a nice package. A lot of planet systems to visit, though with a couple worthy planets to either gather resources or beam down to. I never finished the game for what ever reason. Possibly stuck on where to head to next to solve the story.. I don't remember. I still have the box and everything for the game! For the longest time I would want to come back to this game even after computer specs had advanced and new Windows that wouldn't run these old DoS games. Would try MANY times to get DoSBox to actually work it smoothly, but one section would be alright and then you would go into space mode and it would be as if you pressed the Fast Forward button. So far what I've seen in the game hasn't changed since then. Can't wait to f…

Great classic game. The graphic and controls may be very old, but the story and adventure is still one of the best.

A mix of Star Control and Ultima. A little bit outdated UI, so you need to read some guides on how to play it, but if you like very old RPGs, they don't make these anymore
