I like this game, it's pretty fun... when your at your destination, doing the thing you actually wanted to be doing there. Pirate hunting is very fun once you get the swing of space combat, it opens up alot of skill and tactical awareness to the game along with knowing ships and what you can and cannot fight against. I'm still in the early game enjoying being rather poor with small to medium sized ships. So why the "not recommended" That's rather simple, and alot of the community seems split on this. Having to jump manually 30-100 sectors is more mind numbing than playing a cookie clicker game. I hate my "J" key now with a burning passion and speaking of burning passions, dont fly too close to the sun when you're having to navigate around it or UH OH lets drop you outta FTL and waste 15 seconds waiting for it to cool own. I get that surveying gives the player money, and that its a "profession", but honestly its so mind numbingly boring to fly around the sun, line up, hit "J" and then wait 10 seconds. only to repeat this again.... and again.... TLDR - The game's combat gameplay, wonderful for a space sim. Trading mechanics and living the merchant dreams, very fun. Living the idea…1 found this helpful

I have played a lot of Elite Dangerous - just not through Steam (something like 3,500hrs according to the in-game tracking!) For me, Elite really does capture the scale and grandure of the galaxy; travelling feels like a serious exercise. The spacecraft handle well, everything looks fantastic. There are a lot of things to do, but it is advisible to take it at their own pace and allow yourself some variety; deliberately "grinding" for some specific goal can become tedious; let things happen as they happen. It is solid and stable, and the ability to play in a private group without concern about the occasional "unsavoury" players, is an added bonus if you are looking for a chill experience. Some of the gameplay design choices are not the best, but they are no worse than many AAA games in the market. You will encounter places where you wish they had gone into a bit more depth, or been a bit more creative or adventurous in how they implemented a mechanism. Overall, though, for me it is still the best spaceship-piloting game currently around.
Dark Souls was less frustrating than this mess of a game.

Game is great. Loved the Odyssey expansion but only after it was properly optimized. Operations are promising, but in the current state the frame rate is extremely choppy and unoptimized. Even on my decent computer, I struggle to get above 45-55 fps at 1440p. Hopefully they optimize it because the Operations are really fun.
