Race Jam

Aside from some minor issues, Race Jam is an easy recommendation for people looking for a neat arcade racing experience.

Race Jam is a true hidden gem and I fully recommend it. I played the demo for less then 30 minutes about a month before its full release and was instantly hooked thanks to its fun quirkiness, the commentator, the 90's style and all its references. Race Jam is easily worth the full asking price, it has tons of content, from a bunch of iconic 90's cars with part upgrades to unlock, a range of themed tracks, 90+ missions in the 90's Tour which includes races, an item collect mode, Cop Chases and even a trick mode. There is also a soft roguelite/like mode called Gauntlet where you have to win each race to proceed up the tower with random upgrades and unlocks as you go and even more content to come in the future with extra Bonus Missions and a new "Sippin" mode. The music is also great with a bunch of catchy tracks, some of which even had me humming to myself whenever I wasn't playing. There have been some minor bugs here and there, but the devs have been quick to squash them and are active on Discord if you need them.

Awesome game. Gameplay is fun and intuitive. The whole aesthetic is unique and pleasing. The 90s references are the best part. Big Vibes.

I don't think jamming and driving a car goes along well... A neat game taking inspiration from rumble racing (a game i recently discovered) by its handling and trick mechanic. Some tracks are inspired from classics game and movie I believe too and they're levels design are great. The game as a fair amount of game mode but sadly it doesn't contain a bunch of tracks... As for the OST it's a mixed bag to me, some are good and some are meh. Overall the game is alright it doesn't do anything revolutionary like it tell you but it's pretty good, I recommend taking it on sales tho...

Updated 01/09/26: Regular missions have been fixed. Game can be completed. Horn is also camera reset. Loading seems faster. Achievements fixed. I like this game, it is fun, it has potential, there's a lot of good stuff here, and it can be a blast to play. Everything that follows in my review can be fixed and improved (and hopefully they will). That said, it was not ready to leave early access. The current market for indie racing games is very competitive, there are many well known killers games available, so for the price Race Jam is asking (higher than many), I would expect a high degree of quality, and it's not there just yet. Good things? Driving is fun, drift and boost mechanics are fun and sometimes I found myself "in the zone" drifting and boosting at high speeds feeling like a pro. The songs at minimum are generic, and some are outstanding. Car variety is great with different driving feeling, there are plenty of events and "things" to do, overall art style and visuals are nice and fun. Now for the bad things: The worst one are the loading times and overall quantity of loading screens. Usually for smaller indie games I install them on a HDD. I was getting an average of ~…
