Do you have what it takes to master each racing line, hug every apex, and cross the checkered flag to victory?

Formula Retro Racing: World Tour has four game modes. These are:
  • Arcade

Each car handles uniquely, making each track feel different. It’s up to you to find the best lines and breaking points for each vehicle.

I would love this game if it weren't for two major issues: 1. The handling. For cars with drift handling, they feel way too twitchy to me, they feel a lot like drifting in first 3 Ridge Racer games, and that's not a compliment. For cars with grip handling, they understeer like a boat, making tracks like San Francisco agonizing to drive around. 2. The difficulty, or lack thereof. Even on "Extreme" difficulty, the AI opponents serve better as obstacles than proper opponents. I can consistently lap the back 3 or 4 racers before the end of a 4 lap race. The game is certainly a looker. The visuals are superb, and really give that Virtua Racing vibe I'm sure they were going for. I'm sure this looks great in VR, too (as it does support VR). It's too bad that the game doesn't really pose any sort of challenge beyond trying not to crash into other cars as you make your way into first place sometime in the second lap.

It's a bit of a buggy mess. Some events are straight up unwinnable. Some design choices make little sense (why have an aggressive out-of-time counter in a lapped race?). Would need a lot more work.

Fun once you get the hang of the cars and pick the right one for the right track

Lots of tracks, interesting car dynamics, clean graphical look, music that is good, but maybe feels a generation older than the graphics.

This one is a soft recommendation for a couple reasons: 1. it has more tracks than Formula Retro Racing but just doesn't come out like the first in enjoyment. Maybe it is a bit too much of the same after playing the first. Its good but not amazing. 2. Its in early access. Tomorrow it will be in early access. 70 years from now it will be in early access. The only thing that will take it out of early access is the moment the world ceases to exist. It has been abandoned. I picked this up in a pack of 3 racers for $13.50. That wasn't a bad deal at all. $20 is starting to get steep, but there are a good handful of tracks. You almost get $1 a track here. There are also two types of vehicles and multiple modes. So there is plenty to do. But if you think the price is too steep, I would recommend looking into Formula Retro Racing instead. There is a lot in there to do in that one as well...just not as much.
