About Rising Dusk
Small puzzle platformer with youkai (japanese ghost spirits). Pick up coins to make platforms with specific number on them disappear - different amount is required for different platforms. However be careful because it's not always about collecting coins... To unlock hidden paths you have to think twice and repeat level usually with a different approach to 100% it. Some peculiar items to collect like maneki neko statues, cassette tapes, cursed coins etc. Visual side is good and reminds of classic 16-bit era games like Gegege no Kitarou. Music and sounds are good in this one.
11 found this helpful
I recently came back to finish since this got a new update which was a nice surprise to see I must say i really found it really interesting the idea that you must take into account how many coins you get in order to progress or get any of the collectibles of which none of them felt unfair to get, it was just to know what to do and in some cases plan ahead And some of the recent additions to make the game more challenging like changing the numbers to Kanji or removing checkpoints were also welcome I would recommend this to anyone who wants a good time that has a unique idea
This is a really interesting idea but the game requires some precision platforming and the controls are not good enough for that. It's a shame because this is absolutely the kind of game I would play and love if the controls just felt better.
This is a really cute puzzle game with amazing artwork in a setting based on Japanese folklore. Usually you have to collect all the coins, but in this game you want as few coins as possible--only enough to pass the level. The blocks with numbers on them will disappear when you are holding that amount of coins when touching them. It's a very innovative puzzle idea that works really well with the platforming. In addition to the coins, there are other collectibles that you do want to be picking up. But, to get those, you have to be even more careful with how many coins you hold. There's different yokai that will interact differently with your character too. What's more is the dev continues to provide access to previous game versions so that you can play the original 1.0 version of the game, the updated pre-achievements 1.01 version, or even the physical media release version if you want! Any publisher or dev that does this deserves praise for it. It's a cheap game with great art and an interesting concept and an amazing soundtrack! Definitely worth it!
A 2D platformer where collecting coins causes platforms and obstructions to appear or disappear depending on the number of coins you're carrying at the time. This gives it puzzly aspect which also incorporates spatial manoeuvring as you try to grab, or avoid, coins at appropriate times. Clever and charming, this game is criminally overlooked. It starts off as "oh, this is kind of a cute platformer" but then gradually reveals how well thought out its central mechanic is. I recommend this to people every chance I get.
Even with some blocks having partial hitbox problems, it's still a little unique gem, both for the mechanics and for making every single coin matter so much, and without making it in a casual rage game. A real shame this game it's so hidden
