About Sanatorium «Anthropocene Retreat»
✦ AI summary
Evolve from viral lifeform to human to artificial intelligence across fantastical gardens while completing arcade challenges, story missions, and museum shooter galleries that explore posthumanism and technological singularity. A genre-blending odyssey that combines arcade, quest, and shooter gameplay with philosophical depth about humanity's transformation and our place in the cosmos.
Place yourself into fantastic gardens to work your way through evolutionary transformations, starting as a non-human agent, though viral forms of life into human shape, to finally achieve the status of artificial intelligence. Communicate with NPC, set records in mini-games, fight enemies and witness the arrival of technological singularity.
Gameplay combines the genres of arcade, quest and shooter. In each of these subgames you can be on top of an internet leaderboard. In the second part of the game, relieve stress and shoot out in five fantastic museums of modern art.
Main features of the game:
- NPC missions;
- magic transformations;
- shooting galleries;
- unusual puzzle solutions;
- seamless change of game genre;
The game examines the development of anti-anthropocentric philosophical concepts from the perspective of the classical ‘vergilian’ road movie. The key utopian concepts of antihumanism, posthumanism, transhumanism, and technological singularity as well as the doctrines of Haraway, Latour, and Land are introduced in a magical fantasy performance where the protagonist undergoes a sequence of transformations resulting from his interactions with the other main characters.
The gameplay is based on the fluid identity of the protagonist. His settings are not defined and are subject to change in function of the interactions with non-player characters.
Incidentally, the game through speed of the storyline determines the answer to the vital question of the last decade, namely the exact date of the beginning of Anthropocene, that is, the epoch of significant human impact on Earth.

"Sanatorium «Anthropocene Retreat»" is a lazy, weird and pointless Russian asset flip. The developer ripped off a bunch of Unreal assets, threw them all in a blender and dumped this on Steam Direct. The only weird thing is he forgot to try charge money for it. Regardless, it's valueless. What do you do in the game? It's a kind of FPS adventure thing.. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a joke or the developer seriously thought people would want a garbage asset flip like this. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 9 concurrent p…2 found this helpful
