Gameplay

Using your flashlight reveals the vital clues you need, but risks you being seen.
The game combines elements of stealth games with detective-adventure and psychological horror for a gripping story.

Story

After years of next to no contact, Johnathan Morris arrives in the isolated town of Greenlake to check up on the mental state of his father. Nothing is as he expected it to be. There are deadly forces at work that don’t want John snooping around.

Equipped with nothing more than a flashlight and a notebook, it is up to you to step into the shoes of Johnathan and tell fact from fiction.

I originally played the demo I was given a couple years ago, it seemed okay at the time and I was very interested in where the story was going. Fast forward to now where I saw it in my to review list and was like sure I finally play this one. I definitely wasn't disappointed by the story but I was by everything else, it had been two years and the game didn't even feel updated from the demo I played. Pros: + Great voice acting + Really interesting story that keeps you thinking by the end + Kinda interesting puzzle mechanics + The paintings at the start of the game were creepy and really freaked me out for a bit Cons: - Enemies were boring and very glitchy, some killed me through walls some spawned in walls - Every time I died I got spawned in front or behind an enemy, one time it happened 3 times and I died instantly until it decided it couldn't see me - The horror was good if it worked but it only worked once or twice, I got freaked out by a child on a staircase but most of the time I missed the jumpscare and only saw the poof of smoke afterward - The item jumpscares were really really bad, hald the time the jumpscare wasn't even facing me and it should be on every pickupable it…

While the story as a whole is not too bad, this game suffers from really annoying mechanic where when inspecting things in hand the main character flips out and the objects turn into spiders or skulls etc and this happens throughout the game. Lots of bugs and some puzzle solutions arent very clear. At the end part of the game there's stealth section where enemies will spot and kill you through walls.

Good story. However, the enemies killed you so often because you frequently spawned when they were on top of you. Also, the lack of lighting was supposed to add to the suspense, but all it did was make it difficult to play the game as you could not see hardly anything. And if you turned on your flashlight to see better, you were killed by an enemy within seconds. The frequent autosaves did help, but by the end, I just wanted the game to end. Would recommend when on sale and only for dedicated players.

An exercise in tedium with the most fragile, whiny man-baby playing the role of the protagonist.

I hate that I finished this game. the main character of this game is the most insufferable protagonist of any video ive played this past year. and the voice acting makes it so much worse. the game play is also horrible, you are dealing with a buggy ai an should basically just hit crouch and walk slowly 90% of the game.

A title that very poorly mixes genres of horror and mystery to create a plot that isn't amazingly engaging nor holds any significant pushes in new and fresh directions to the focus of aliens or conspiracies as a theme. Majority of my playtime is from leaving the game on but the game while expected to be a walking/puzzle focused game play style had nothing intriguing to push it forward, and most of my time was either walking through admittedly decently designed setpieces of environments or more aggrevatingly stealthly avoiding humans and aliens alike that had the behavior pattern of mindless drones trying to shine their detection fov over my grubby little sneaking shoes.
