As much as a fan I am of the Scott Pilgrim Series, from the books, movie, first game, and the animated series I've watched/played, Scott Pilgrim EX is a rather mediocre game. It's not downright bad by any means. There's been some love put into it, but unfortunately that can only get so far when it comes to making a good game. == STORY 5/10 == Avoiding spoilers, this game's story is a generic time travel plot. Which is not bad, if done well. I feel like it was a little undermined by how short the game felt (We'll get to that). It taking place in the animated series's timeline, which was a nice touch, I guess. == GAMEPLAY 3/10 == The gameplay is basically what the first game had, but stripped down to its most basic concept. You don't gain new moves (Minus the assists summons) by leveling up. The enemy variety was mixed in my opinion. There were some uniqueness near the end, but compared to the first game, it was wasn't really much. Movement was janky as hell, and was not much of a fan of that. Despite that, the worst of all was, IT WAS TOO SHORT. For the price, this game had to little and felt like it should have been cheaper for what it had. Locations were eit…4 found this helpful
A genuinely massive disappointment. For an almost $30 game, there was: Redundant and uninteresting dialogue, unoriginal progression system, and a very boring quest system. The combat may have been the only thing interesting, as there was a much better combo system than the original. Other than that though, if you're looking for a good beat 'em up, just play Streets of Rage 4. If you're looking for a funny, and captivating story. Well, you're outta luck with this one.3 found this helpful
This game is just simply not as good as the first game; everything just feels slow and boring and the story is very generic. I would say wait for a sale, but the game never goes on a damn sale for some reason and it’s don’t have a demo, because it’s very overpriced: there are far better beat em ups.2 found this helpful
The sprite art of this is a lot better than the original, and then it's worse in every single way possible. The original was a lot more endearing with its lack of dialogue. Now, everyone is a cut and dry archetype, and Roxie won't stop talking about girls. I like Roxie, but I wish she had more going on. Also the general gameplay was a lot harder to get around, and also suffered from the same extremely high difficulty curve that the original had. Not worth the $30 I paid day 1 sadly.
Different than the first but still a blast and solid difficulty if not a lil cheeesy
i main roxie because she mogs
