Shock Tactics would have been a decent turn-based tactics game if not for the bugs. Soldiers have a tendency to "ghost" after missions, making them unselectable in the loadout screen. A related issue causes weapons and armor previously equipped on ghosted soldiers to permanently disappear from the arsenal. These bugs don't make the game totally unplayable per se, but they definitely kill the fun. It's really too bad that the developers abandoned the game in such a state because the 4X-lite strategic layer and combat were pretty good for an indie TBT game. I managed to make it all the way through to the end, but contending with the bugs made it a real chore to complete. I wouldn't recommend Shock Tactics to anyone unless I had a strong dislike for that person.1 found this helpful
Shock Tactics is a 65/100 game trying to be something like an XCom alternative. Unfortunately it fails. Do not buy this. The Good: - nice atmosphere - ok enough graphics - decent game ideas like active environment, alien artifacts to find, surface to roam about and find your missions, resource management - serious SciFi theme, not so close to the fantasy genre like XCom - decent enough tactics The Bad: - tactical combat is a pain, you can't shoot down at a group of enemies with a burst fire cone as they aren't on the same hight level for example, only single shots allowed - apparently shoddy programming as the game takes ages to load (I run a high tier gaming PC and the graphics are not that great so it'S definitely game performance...) - the balancing is questionable, a mission with difficulty 3 of 5 had some massively tanky units with artillery weapons on their backs and a total enemy count of probably around 12 to 15 against my team of six without any decent cover made me deinstall it as I couldn't be bothered any more (I do enjoy challenges but this was just stupid, especially as I could only fire at one enemy at a time from above) The Ugly: - the UI is...ugly, looks like a…1 found this helpful
An absolute missed opportunity of a game that could of been as great as the likes of xcom enemy within. Unfortunately I have to NOT recommend this game as it is basically broken and left abandoned.1 found this helpful
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…
I really wanted to like this game, it had xcom elements and base building but it ultimately did not reasonate with me for a few reasons No choosing skills for your team or even choosing their class so while they level up no interesting choices building them up The base building is static, the only question is what can you afford to build and thats fairly linear The research is also static, at least for the first 10 hours, so again no interesting choices The only choice you really get is the tactical battles and they have tricks like high cover and reinforcements and other twists that make them more puzzles than real strategy tests. In short, not xcom just the veneer of it.
The good i like the abilty to choose colors of armor for your characters. also its nice to be able to name them anything you want. the battle UI was really well done, showing hit chance, vision from every spot. what can or cant be seen from each spot. and any other quality of life thing i can thing of. the bad the loading speed to get to the world map which is the place you find mission or go to your base to do anything is insanely slow. it took about 34 seconds one time...this will get annoying eventually as there is no logical reason for this to happen lack of purpose, a lot of missions are just defeat these people and take their resources. it gets boring fast.... there are some exceptions but they don't save this aspect of the game. lack of strategy. okay....your soldiers...you shoot guns and get cover....thats....about it for most of the game. late game you unlock some armors which offer some new options... but even then its mostly the same. and even when you finally have new abiltys...they may either have a long (10 turn...) cool down or worse. only able to use some skills one time for an entire battle... leaving you with basic find cover and shoot for the majority of this …
