The fps keeps dropping and flickering, so much so that I've started to have epilepsy.8 found this helpful
Not as Good as the Original. I loved the first Shock Troopers, but Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad just doesn’t hit the same. The biggest downgrade is the gameplay. The original Shock Troopers felt fast, intense, and smooth. Movement was tighter, weapons felt more satisfying, and the overall pacing kept you on edge. In 2nd Squad, everything feels slower and less responsive. The fixed direction shooting really hurts the flow compared to the run-and-gun freedom of the first game. The level design also feels less creative. The first game had more variety and memorable routes, while this one feels repetitive and more linear. It’s not terrible, but it definitely lacks the charm and replay value that made the original so addictive. Graphics are slightly updated, but honestly, that’s not enough to make up for the weaker gameplay changes. If you’re new to the series, it’s still playable. But if you’re a fan of the original, this sequel might feel like a step backward. Overall: Disappointing compared to the first game.3 found this helpful
Everything that's great about the first game is missing here, only few playable characters, no gore which by the way is the reason the first one is great. I'm not even a fan of the controls, but at least it was still fun to play, just overshadowed by its predecessor.1 found this helpful
The original game is fun. It has a lot of character. Shock Troopers 2 is from a time where Japanese games featured gratuitous Engrish. It was charming and added to the enjoyment. But this.... Terrible port. Its 'look how they massacred my boy' bad. Not worth the $1.20 I paid for it! Two main issues: - The default resolution is completely borked and won't fit your screen. Taking the game out of windowless doesn't fix it and it won't let you resize the window. You have to go into the options and lower the resolution. Even better: the option you need to select for the changes to take effect is off screen until you successfully change the resolution. - Crippling slow down. This game has quite a few copers claiming, 'DUHHHH, ACHTUALLY, THE ORIGINAL HAD SLOWDOWN TOO" attempting to make people believe it was just as bad. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! Yeah, this game had slowdown and flickering on the original hardware, but it wasn't nearly as bad as this port! The slowdown in this version is Metal Slug 2 bad - which if you're familiar, is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad. You'd be better off grabbing this game off a ROM site and playing it on a NEO GEO emulator since your choices are give at most $8 to pe…1 found this helpful
Overall, this is fine. However, it's like the developers took the near perfection that was the first game and said, "Now let's make it annoying chaos while stripping away its unique features!" That's pretty much it. That being said, it's still more good than bad. But with the options and pure fun that come with the original, just play that one again and take different routes and explore more characters.
ikari warriors, commando, CONTRA Shock Troopers will scratch the itch
