About Signal to Noise (2015)

Signal to Noise is a real-time music-driven action game. However, that does not mean it is a typical rhythm game. Taking inspiration from some of the greatest classic games ever made, it's a high-octane hardcore rail shooter first and foremost that just so happens to build itself in front of your eyes from any music you play.

Analyzing more audio components than any music-driven game before, and all in real-time, Signal to Noise pieces together your experience based on the dynamics, pitch and tempo of your chosen track, interpreting it phrase-by-phrase and crafting your experience on the fly. Enemies, power-ups and the arenas themselves act differently each time you play a new tune. The game supports any audio file or playlist, and can even be played at live music events.

Designed by passionate classic gamers, Signal to Noise has the strongest focus of any modern game on what made point-pressing and competitive high score play in classic arcade games so strategically deep and satisfying. With an understanding of this type of play unrivaled elsewhere in independent games, Signal to Noise has been designed for the players with the greatest understanding of the game and greatest skill to come out on top in the leaderboards. Even still, while competitive play and depth of mechanics is a great focus of the design, the game is designed to be satisfying in a short amount of time for anyone that likes music.

Welcome to the next generation of music-driven and hardcore arcade gaming.

Not enough Signal too much Noise. I gave this game a try because I'm always eager to check out games that can interact with your music library. This doesn't really do that. You are essentially playing your music in the background of a truly CRAP game. I don't see how the music really affects the gameplay besides maybe a few more enemies here or there. It's the same succession of tunnels over and over. The colors of EVERYTHING change constantly so your brain can have fun in its pattern recognition region with all the irrelevant colors. The controls are absolute crap, the pov is crap, the graphics are crap, menu's crap, Ui CRAP, enemies are crap, level design big huge crap. Wow, this game is really terrible. This can't even pass for a free game. Let's see... Everything is bad about this game. Zero redeeming qualities. Cons: - Everything

I had a lot of fun playing this game. It's very colorful and I really enjoyed seeing the enemies moving to the music.

The brief moments I spent with tells me that this game is barely playable and not even close to a recommendation. Artstyle and design is pretty cool, but the gameplay is lacking (putting it mildly).

It is a fun arcade styled game that adds an unique level of costomization through the use of your own music. The entertainment it can provide can range from relaxing and casual to intense and heart pounding. I would hightly recommend this game to others.

Tags: Casual - Twitch & Arcade Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Janky camera. Amateur electronic music. Rotating Large Hadron Collider. Lacks a feeling of speed. Intrusive UI. Extremely grating amateur electronic music, about as bad as the graphics which are poorly slapped together polygonal messes. You rotate around a ghetto version of the large hadron collider and collect pine trees while shooting at stuff. The camera is really janky and keeps taking sharp movements left and right while you tumble in on yourself, the feeling of speed is missing and rather than hug the edges you often just float akwardly and clumsily in the middle of the tube. The UI is one of the most intrusive and badly designed ones I ever saw, and the game will add badly designed tutorial messages with keyboard commands even if you play with a xbox pad making the game just a spam attack of ugly info boxes when you first try playing. You usually tumble down the tube for between 30 to 60 seconds and then have to fight a giant viking head with swapped out color palettes for the lights. The controls there are insanely sluggish and you cant do much else than just press fire. Then …
