About Soundsaber

A twin-stick shooter where your music is your weapon. Whichever track you choose will power your engines and your lasers, but beware: your enemies are also driven by the music.

Soundsaber fully supports all mainstream audio file formats: MP3, FLAC, M4A, AAC, WMA, WAV, OGG, AIFF, MOD, IT, S3M and XM are all fully compatible.

Soundsaber comes with a dozen sample tracks by artists like 0edit, Aaron Static, Blissbox and Jim Guthrie to get you started, but you can use any audio file on your hard drive to generate a Soundsaber level.

Soundsaber is compatible with Xbox controllers but can equally be played with a mouse and keyboard. The controls are very simple: on an Xbox controller, one stick aims while the other moves. On a keyboard, you can move using WASD or the arrow keys and use the mouse to aim (Spacebar pauses the game). No button presses are required: your weapons shoot automatically based on the music.

Soundsaber's difficulty dynamically adapts to your skill level. Getting hit will lower your Groove meter, which in turns lowers the difficulty but also lowers your potential score as well as your final rank.

Thanks to this dynamic difficulty system, Soundsaber is supremely accessible and can be enjoyed by players of any skill level. Achieving perfect scores on a difficult song is a feat worthy of the most dedicated hardcore gamer, but the same song can be equally enjoyed by someone playing for the first time. You will never die and have to start over: nothing comes between you and enjoying your music.

You earn points by collecting Motes of Sound dropped by defeated enemies. Each song keeps its own local high score table. Identical songs will always generate the same gameplay, so you can play the same song over and over to try and improve your score or beat your friends.

Different songs will generate different gameplay. Try a variety of tracks and see what comes out, you may find there are some surprises in store for you...

I love this game the way it analyzes the songs, the enemies sync with the music but at the same time have their own speed and patterns, some enemies moving and summoning with the beat, the boss 100% surprised me i wasn't expecting it at all, and I love the idea that the music is your weapon but also your enemy. 10/10 best music-based procedural generation game I've played so far.

I have played the older version from itch.io a lot. The way gameplay reacts to music is IMO the best out of all existing music driven games. Enemies react not just to the loudness, but to beats, the environment changes on downbeats, it feels great. Gameplay-wise this is similar to Beat Hazard, you dodge and shoot all kinds of enemies that react to the music. However Beat Hazard (and similar music driven games like Symphony) only use loudness to drive gameplay, whereas Soundsaber seems to analyze the audio files, I don't know what exactly it analyzes, definitely does beat detection, but it makes enemies so much more in sync with the music. There is also a soundspaces gamemode, where you slowly unlock new songs in a soundspace generated from your music folder. I also really like that because it offers some kind of progression and also its great when I don't know which song to pick (which is most of the time for me). So this is a highly recommend from me

Couple things: To start, what other people said does feel true. This game is more satisfying in terms of its generation aligning with the songs. It's fun, as well. But for this game to especially stand out and fulfill its potential, I'd suggest a few things. PAUSING - As far as I can tell, there is no pause button. If you hit escape, in fact, it will take you back to the menu and suddenly end your round. OPTIONS - There is no options menu. You cannot modulate volume nor view controls or otherwise in-game. Even if it seems small, having the ability to window, change resolution, arrange audio settings, all while staying in the game makes it a better flowing experience. GRAPHICAL STYLE - The game's style is fine. However, to maximize potential, I think it would be best to have multiple visual style types to choose from. (The current one is a neon geometric 3D style, but it could benefit from other added styles both 3D and 2D, such as other color pallets, or enemy and obstacle looks.) GAMEPLAY MODES (?) - Maybe other modes, such as boss rush in which you fight only bosses, or endless scrolling platformers, or traditional 4 key rhythm. Of course, this is a more sizable thing to req…

This is actually one of the coolest games I ever played, It makes listening to my favorite songs much more immersive! This for sure enhances the music listening experience and turns your playlists into a fun bullet hell game that can actually get pretty difficult depending on the kind of music you listen to which is why I think this game is so cool!
