This early-access game suffers from significant technical issues that severely hamper the experience, including disappearing assets and collision detection problems that make basic gameplay frustrating. Players also complain about poor controls, low field of view that feels restrictive, and an unhelpful tutorial that fails to explain essential mechanics clearly. While the concept has potential, most agree the game needs substantial fixes and refinement before it's worth playing.
so far, i've only played this game for not even 30 minutes, but in that time it made sure to annoy me. after about 10 minutes of figuring out the controls and how things worked my slime container on my ranch just completely disappeared, i could walk through it and my few slimes were still inside the nonexistent shell so i had to restart. after struggling for another 10 minutes or so to get the apples into the stupid container i made the first device it told me to put on my ranch, except opening that device's menu got me completely stuck in it. no button i pressed got me out, tab brought me to a completely unrelated menu but not out so i just ragequitted. moral of the story, don't buy this as it is. for now i wouldn't play this, but maybe after a few updates i may try it again and update this review.30 found this helpful
Assets are disappearing. See a slime you want to pick up? Now you don't. Both horizontal and vertical FOV are incredibly low. It's like playing through binoculars. Your robot 'helper' follows in your footsteps. The only problem is that you're already occupying those footsteps. It's like that one friend who has bad eyesight and no sense of personal space who gets right up in your face to tell you something. Now, this might be your thing, but when you're supposed to deposit things you pick up from the ground into a container on its back, every time you turn around the item gets stuck in the collision detection and you have to fight with it to get it back. Text labels on buttons aren't clickable. You have to click over or underneath the text. For the buttons where the labels are not placed over the button? Good luck finding that transparent clickable area. The part of the menu which describes the various slimes has an image of the slime which covers half of the text. The tutorial has you pick up stuff with LMB. Then asks you to pick up some crates, but forgets to tell you that you now should be pressing 'E' to pick up stuff. TAB brings up the menu, yet TAB doesn't close the menu.…26 found this helpful
started the game and my apple crate fell through the world never to be seen again14 found this helpful
Controls are awful and often unintuitive and awkward as all get out12 found this helpful
Disappearing slimes, can fall through the map, a tutorial which lacks necessary explanations, and other bugs take away any potential fun this game has to offer. I've never played Slime Rancher, so perhaps this is just a low budget ripoff of that game and I'm just not aware of it? It needs a lot more work before it can be recommended.11 found this helpful
