I played Sopwith when I was a kid 40 years ago, and I sucked at it. I played this remake a couple of weeks ago in my 40s, and I still suck at it. Remake is 100% accurate to the original. Nice work dev.2 found this helpful
Sopwith is a very old school flying game that surprised me with how much fun I can still get out of such a simple idea. I am flying a World War I biplane across a scrolling battlefield, trying to destroy ground targets while avoiding enemy fire and keeping my plane in the air. The current Steam version is a faithful remake of the original 1984 DOS game, with eight levels, several difficulty options and online multiplayer added for modern systems. The basic gameplay is still very straightforward, but there is something satisfying about having to actually control the plane rather than just pointing it in a direction and holding down a button. The flying itself is probably the best part for me. I have to manage my speed, use the flaps properly and be careful when taking off or landing because losing control of the biplane can happen surprisingly easily. Once I get used to it, I can pull off loops, stalls and other manoeuvres while trying to line up bombing runs. I also have to keep track of my fuel, ammunition and bombs, so even the simple missions have a little more going on than I first expected. YES PLEASE!!!!!!!! so beyond great i hope your dedicated and plan on doing this for several forgotten classics, i really need FREDDY FISH, ALLEY CAT, FLIGHTMARE, etc I'D PAY for these classics on steam with controller functionality easy like this all day, i'd also love to see BIG TOP, BOUNCING BABIES, oh and maybe something dark like the TRANSYLVANIA TRILOGY!!!! PLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSE!!!!!!
Nice game, quite skill-based especially with the slight delay between spawning a bomb & dropping it. the computer plane is also quite good.
