Fire, just fire!

"Sopwith VR" is an abandoned Early Access attempt to make a flight simulator where you can fly a Sopwith Camel. Ignoring one of the absolute primary, arguably sole purpose of a simulator to be realistic, the developer opted for garbage tier low poly graphics instead of realistic ones, resulting in a total failure on Steam Direct. What do you do in the game? Fly a badly rendered low poly WW1 biplane. The developers abandoned this 7 years and 2 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. Простая графика оригинала, конечно, здесь отшлифована, но дух той самой, наивной, но безумно увлекательной Sopwith никуда не делся. Ощущение полета на хрупком биплане, маневрирование между вражескими постройками и отчаянные "воздушные бои" с юркими красными самолетиками – все это ощущается в VR по-новому, гораздо более интенсивно. Управление интуитивно понятное, быстро осваиваешься и начинаешь получать удовольствие от виражей и бомбометания. Единственный минус – игра могла бы быть и подлиннее, режимов больше. Тем не менее, это достойная реализация классики, которая заставляет улыбнуться и вспомнить те самые времена, когда пиксели были большими, а веселья – еще больше. Must-have для любителей ретро и VR.

If you remember the 1980s SOPWITH.EXE back in the old days of DOS... this is very much a spiritual successor to that. The controls are touchy, the targets fragile, and the enemy aircraft spiral into the ground after being shot full of holes. The only thing missing really from the original is bombs. Instead you have an aimable vickers machinegun that makes strafing tanks so much fun. If you don't remember that game, still give this a try, it's a fun arcade flight combat game. The controls are a bit touchy, and the flight characteristics of a WWI biplane are... exciting, so hold on, strafe some targets, and try not to nose-dive into the ground. Plus, it's a free game, what have you got to lose?
