About Space Aces
Space Aces is a video game made for the spring 2022 offering of CAP 4053 at UCF. The player controls a space fighter capable of movement in 3 directions and rotation in 3 directions. The game supports any controller, keyboard, and the Thrustmaster 1600M flight stick.
The game has 3 levels where you will fly a spaceship around a 3d space attempting to shoot down your enemies before they can do the same for you. In space, there is nothing to slow you down, so you will have to do your best to utilize your momentum to your advantage. It can be a challenge to control a spaceship in a dogfight, but that's part of the fun! Fly through asteroid fields avoiding enemy attacks as you get your sights on target and take down your enemies.
The game features unique music in each level, with titles and attributions on the credits screen.

Joystick Controls: trigger shoot, hat switch heave and sway strafing, center thumb button toggle Flight Assist, left thumb button thrust forward, right thumb button thrust backward, joystick left/right axis roll, joystick up/down axis pitch, joystick twist axis yaw
Controller controls: right trigger shoot, left stick has yaw and pitch, right stick has roll and heave, left bumper is backwards thrust, right bumper is forwards thrust, south face button is toggle flight assist
keyboard controls: See diagram above. qweasd are translational axes and uiojkl are rotational axes. left shift is toggle flight assit, and space bar is shoot.
There is no pause menu. We had last minute issues getting it to work. If you cant beat the game, and you get stuck on a level, you'll have to alt f4 the game.

It's kinda silly and janky, but a free game worth the 15-30 minute playtime if you have some time to kill. Radar is slightly disorientating but basically you just want the little red dots to be the same size as your ship while being directly above your green dot. It's a top down view with ships replaced with dots if that helps. Shift turns on inertial dampeners to stop you spinning or speeding away out of control. Controls on keyboard are qweasd qe being up and down, wasd for forward, backward, and side strafe. uiojkl controls direction uo for rotating (yaw), ik for up and down, jl for rotating around the direction you're looking and thus doesn't do much other than minor adjustments to whether you're looking at them from a relative upside down or right side up. Space to fire, just spam it to fire faster, line up the little targeting square with what you want to shoot. It's hard to aim since it's just basically a laser bolted on like some old WW2 fighter.4 found this helpful
Before I played Space Aces, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
2 found this helpful

At least it's playable. As a flight game enthusiast, I don't like to waste my time on this. I prefer some other games which is also free and better.1 found this helpful
This game is the best thing I experienced in my Life Where should I start 1. Music: It is just a 10/10 even though I wasn't so good at shooting enemies the music bettered my mood by 100% 2. Story: The story is probably very interesting I cant wait to find out about the lore. I hope for future updates that will tell the story more. 3. Controles: After I found out how the controls work and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't able to master them but, it is 100% skill-based. I am sure there will be esports to this game. 4. Gameplay: It is sooo realistic I felt the damage to my ship while it was shot at. I felt fear while running from the battle. I felt the anger rise in me as I shot all the enemies. But like all solgiers, I felt really bad after the battle. I thought about the families that will be raised without a father or mother. I cried on my pillow several nights and tried to get over it. I hope every true Gamer can experience this game. Feel what war is about and stop it. We all will understand the veterans that fought for our country and try to honor them. This is a game of the year for me.1 found this helpful
