About Strange Telephone

Strange Telephone is a 2D adventure game in which the player explores strange worlds created with merely 6 digits, and has multiple endings.

The protagonist Jill is trapped in a dark world with a large door floating before her. She is aided by Graham, who takes on the form of a telephone. Making phone calls with Graham creates various worlds that can be explored. In each of these worlds are items to be found, including the key that will lead to her escape.

Developer's Voice

This is a 2D adventure game in which the main characters - Jill and Graham - must escape from the world in which they've been trapped. I feel that it turned out to be a very unique and original game, featuring all the trappings of a classic indie title: the pixel art graphics, animation, music, and more.
This is sort of a "behind the scenes" anecdote, but the game was designed and built upon the foundation of a "hidden story" which isn't directly explained. All of the eleven various ending movies, characters, object designs, etc. were meticulously put together in such a way as to contain parts of the "riddles" used in unravelling this hidden story. I feel that if you can manage to read between the lines and figure some of this stuff out, then the world of Strange Telephone can be enjoyed on an even deeper level, so as the developer I really hope that players keep their eyes and ears open as the play through the game and see what they can find.

Neat visuals, but progression is way too vague. I don't see anyone being able to complete this without a guide.

Very nice surreal game with some gameplay elements that actually reinforce the exploration as opposed to existing independently of it. Basically, there are literally thousands of numbers you can dial. Each number takes you to a level. You then use this level as a sort of "forward operating base" to explore adjacent levels. There is a time limit that throws you back to the hub if you exceed it, meaning you will have to dial again. Basically your goal is to narrow down as many "important levels" as possible, explore these as thoroughly as you can, and try to accomplish as much as you can before you get booted back to the hub. There are also a lot of ways to avoid blindly wandering around. If you pay attention and really think about what you've already come across, you can avoid tedious wandering and reach a lot of "aha!" moments. I really like this system. The only thing is...it would be absolutely SICK if there was some kind of concrete fail-state if you dialed too many times, took to long overall, etc, which, if the conditions were met, would completely wipe your save like a permadeath game. This would REALLY incentivise wise and deliberate exploration choices and, IMO, elevate …

Neat little puzzle game. Was not a fan of one of the puzzles requiring a twitter page to solve, Its been reposted to youtube, but just know you'll eventually hit a puzzle that will require looking online for the hint. Otherwise, cool game.
