As someone that plays chess, this isnt my choice for a couple reasons. While I beat it just fine on its highest setting, the problem is you have 3 valued pieces you arent allowed to lose, they are randomly a bishop, knight, rook, pawn, king or queen, now the problem i have is the computer even on low setting will gun for those pieces, if your valued knight is pinned thats it, youre losing it even if they sack their queen for it. it doesnt end the game if you lose one, but it drops your score and makes you look poo, the thing is you have to pass every level with all 3 pieces alive each game if you want full marks, think there was something like 240 levels. Honestly i dont see the point in playing when i cant make a brilliant play because one of the pieces i need to sacrifice is valued.3 found this helpful
Good game though!2 found this helpful
No sacrifice, no win. But this game designed to sacrifice. Almost impossible to win without losing these pieces.1 found this helpful
Good little puzzle game to try out different openings, works great on the Steam Deck as well.1 found this helpful
Stress Chess is an unconventional single-player strategy game that reimagines traditional chess as a narrative-driven puzzle experience rather than a competitive duel. Developed and published by FourOrbStudios, the game takes the rigid, rule-bound framework of classical chess and reframes it through a playful, character-focused lens, aiming to make strategic thinking more approachable and less intimidating. Instead of focusing on checkmates and ranking systems, Stress Chess emphasizes problem-solving, protection, and careful planning under unusual constraints, giving it a distinct identity within the broader strategy genre. The central concept revolves around protecting the Mc’Chess children, who act as high-value pieces on the board. The opposing side is willing to trade any of its pieces to capture one of these children, turning every move into a test of foresight and risk management. This twist fundamentally changes how players approach familiar chess positions. Sacrifices that might be acceptable in standard chess become disastrous here, forcing players to rethink habits and consider safety and positioning above aggressive advancement. The result is a constant sense of tension…
