Check vs Mate merges classical chess strategy with real-time action combat, letting you command fantastical armies across magical battlefields where your pieces physically fight to victory. It fuses professional chess engines with arcade-style beat-em-up battles, offering six unique environments, twelve playable characters, and scalable difficulty for players of any skill level.
Chess – the unrivalled champion of strategy games has been attracting players of all ages for countless centuries. CHECK vs. MATE is based on the simple yet ingenious concept of creating a fusion between professional chess software and upbeat, combat oriented game mechanics, complete with richly animated game pieces. At the outset of a match things seem quite basic: a 3D game board pits two opponents against each other in a seemingly ordinary game of chess. The game board itself is set in one of six available environments, each with its own unique landscape and presentation features. Traditionally recognized game pieces have been given a facelift as hulking stone golems and beastly chimaeras take the place of the typical rook and knight pieces respectively.

Battle vs Chess is a creative twist on the classic game, combining traditional chess strategy with animated battles that bring each move to life. The visuals add a fun and immersive layer, especially for players who enjoy seeing their pieces fight it out. While the core gameplay remains true to chess, the added modes and presentation make it feel fresh. It may not replace pure competitive chess, but it’s a great way to enjoy the game in a more entertaining and dynamic way.1 found this helpful
If you like chess you'll probably like this. I suck at chess and CBF putting the necessary hours in study and practice to get good at it; couldn't beat the third challenge in the campaigns.
Gorgeous graphics, great animations, amazing music, fun gamemodes, and very high-quality overall! The timing of the arrow presses in the Duel mode is a bit janky, but besides that, this game is definitely worth playing!
I press buttons in time and the AI still gets to kick my ass. Sometimes it doesn't even matter if I press the arrows correctly or not, the AI hits anyway. A very bad experience. I watched a tutorial on how to leave reviews just to review this negatively.
