A clear 2D game with multiple levels and puzzles, It got me interested in chess again.3 found this helpful
Chess Royal is a digital adaptation of the classic strategy board game developed by Inlogic Software and published by Silesia Games. Rather than reinventing chess with dramatic new mechanics, the game focuses on delivering a clean and accessible digital version of the centuries-old game that can be enjoyed by both newcomers and experienced players. Its design philosophy centers on simplicity, ease of use, and offering a handful of helpful features that allow players to practice, learn, and enjoy chess without needing the complexity often found in more competitive chess software. At its foundation, Chess Royal preserves the traditional rules that define chess as one of the most respected strategy games in history. Players control the familiar set of pieces—king, queen, rooks, bishops, knights, and pawns—each with their unique movement patterns and strategic value. The ultimate goal remains unchanged: to trap the opponent’s king in a position where it cannot escape capture, achieving checkmate. Because the game relies on the authentic rules of chess, the depth of gameplay comes entirely from the player’s decisions, long-term planning, and ability to predict an opponent’s strategy se…1 found this helpful
Best Chess game here in Steam. No doubt it was freaking awesome!! Worth the money I spent. 10/10 for me1 found this helpful
[EDIT: After finishing the game, I realized it's impossible to platinum the trophy because one of the achievements is malfunctioning.] Well... I think this game can be worthwhile for passing the time and get some archievements, but there are many things that could be fixed, and which are not executed as well as in other chess platforms. The game has 10 bot levels. Levels 1 to 8 are easy for an intermediate player. I had around a 1450 rating on chessdotcom with a peak rating of 1670 and I had no difficulty with the level 1 to 7 bots. With a real challenge in the level 8 bot. And I struggled a lot in the level 9 bot. So I believe that the bots 1-9 in this game can be good for beginners or players with up to a 1700/1800 rating. Level 10 bot, however, ist REALLY HARD. Maybe really almost a master level. I find it impossible to beat, for me, without use the hints and the option to undo moves. The game offers 1000 puzzles. Which is a considerable number. And it is undoubtedly motivating to practice puzzles to get the archievements. But there are some problems with these puzzles. To give an example: Puzzle 80 (fen = 1rbq1r2/p2pbp1k/p1p2p1p/3PpN2/4P3/PPN5/2P2PPP/R2Q1RK1 w - - 0 1) has …1 found this helpful
So, I found this game while combing through the 'sales' page on SteamDB and I'm going to be perfectly honest: I bought this game solely because of the young woman they have in one of the trailers on the Steam page. She's pretty cute, and has a lot of pep. We're only human, after all. As such, because she sold me on the game, I bought it, and well, it's exactly what it says on the tin: it's chess. Now I’m no expert and I don't care about studying theory or analyzing every move: I just wanted a clean, reliable way to play quick offline matches to unwind, and Chess Royal delivers perfectly. It uses Stockfish 11—which might be old news to chess enthusiasts—but it gives a casual player like me a great challenge. Highly recommended if you just want to play a quick game without any online stress.
An excellent little game, simple and straightforward, uncluttered and good to look at. So many chess game interfaces get over excited with to many options and details. If you just want to play chess without all the distractions then this is the one.
