Love the game! The characters, the story, and the environment are very well developed and really make the player feel immersed in the world. The combat is challenging and engaging. There's a lot to say about this game. First, I had the opportunity to play when it was first called "Into the Farlands" and the complete overhaul that occurred a while back. So much has changed and it was definitely an improvement from the original direction. Originally, it was a fixed camera open world/linear hack and slash game. The music was great. Visually, I liked the appeal of Mesoamerican civilization with the mix of Crimson effects that was altering the world. There wasn't a lot there to have as a full game which makes sense because it's a small team progressively working on the game. But I will say that the demo offered insight on what the game was going for. Lots of hacking and slashing but also bugs lol which is typical. Now, the camera isn't fixed to one spot, it's more open world and better mechanics, upgraded visuals, better direction in terms of story, music is still on point. Lots of different environments and variety. Still more updates to come. The time I've spent on the game is exploring (finding characters, interacting with them like the captain saying "butter me balls" lol, fighting different enemies, finding bugs and reporting them on discord, trying out the…2 found this helpful
Into the Farlands reminds me of the hit game Slap City except in all of the ways that it's different, such as the fact that it is an action/adventure game set in what is essentially a mish-mash of mesoamerican influences, rather than a platform fighter containing various characters from the Swedish game development team Ludosity. You might be wondering: "smokepincher, so far you've only listed things that are different between these two games, what are some of the similarities? Also why are you bringing Slap City into this review anyways? Are you sponsored by Ludosity?". Those are all valid questions, and the answers are as follows: both Into the Farlands and Slap City are based games that you can play on your personal computer, and no, I am not (yet) sponsored by Ludosity.2 found this helpful
