Super Star Adventure

I might be the first person to have beat this game. Honestly, it's really nice. It's kinda short, but it's a nice little experience. Nice little story, interesting turn-based combat, just an overall neat game. It's nothing world changing, but it's a good time.

Super Star Adventure is a retro science-fiction role-playing game that proves ambitious ideas do not require elaborate visuals to leave a lasting impression. Beneath its simple appearance lies an engaging RPG that captures the spirit of classic genre titles while introducing enough modern design elements to feel fresh and rewarding. The story begins with disaster. A scientific expedition aboard the Explorer-01 is interrupted when a meteor shower cripples the ship and forces an emergency crash on the mysterious planet Astralis. Separated from the rest of the crew and stranded in an unfamiliar environment, the protagonist must venture into the unknown in search of survivors. This straightforward premise serves as an effective starting point, allowing the game to gradually reveal a much larger mystery hidden beneath the surface of the planet. Fun little game with a strong old school feel. The core gameplay loop is engaging and the combat system has a satisfying rhythm once it clicks. The defense and parry mechanics add tension to fights and make encounters feel active rather than passive. The characters feel distinct and the dialogue is a highlight. It is witty and well written, and it actually made me giggle more than once. That said, the timing window for parries feels quite strict early on. It can be tough to get the hang of it in the beginning, so slightly easing players into it could make the first hours smoother without losing challenge later. Overall, the gameplay is solid and enjoyable. With a bit of early balancing, this could hook a lot of players for the long run.

Take on the role of a spaceman on an alien planet and do top down adventuring, reading cringe e-book writing, platforming, even QTE gameplay. All of which is so badly slapped together and badly presented gamers overwhelmingly rejected it. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." Great art, storytelling and the combat is fun too! It's giving Undertale vibes so far :)
