About Symptoms of Infection

Help discover novel and chimeric pathogens and treat the strange, sometimes horrifying, infectious diseases they produce.

Examine and test patients for common and novel infections using sophisticated medical instrumentation and disinfection procedures. All infected patients must be sent to the isolation ward for further evaluation and treatment. Rumors of mysterious diseases and human experimentation are unconfirmed.

The soft-ware initially presents information about SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION. This presentation is crucial to approach the initial phase of DIAGNOSIS, TESTING and DISPOSITION:

During DIAGNOSIS,
  • Examine the patient visually
  • Interview them
  • Run tests
During TESTING,
  • Allow the LAM-ORB Mainframe to process tests
  • Initially users of the soft-ware will be of low-priority to the Mainframe
  • You may request to EXPEDITE processing to the Mainframe, every click counts
During DISPOSITION,
  • Make sure you identify all SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION
  • Make sure you indicate the finding of infectious patterns or pathogens in the tests
ATTENTION: Some patients may present comorbidities or symptoms that not necessesarily represent an underlying disease.

The ISOLATION WARD

Every and all infected patients, no matter the nature of their infection, must be held in the ISOLATION WARD for further evaluation and treatment. While common infections like bacterial ones are widely understood and well-know across both the medical field and the world population, some infectious pathogens and diseases remain unknown. And while the discovery of new pathogens and diseases is by itself of major relevance to public healthcare; a small fraction of unknown, sometimes horrifying, infectious pathogens and diseases are studied in the background by both public and private institutions like LAM-ORB.

Second Phase: DISINFECTION PROCEDURE

When the ISOLATION WARD reaches full capacity, a DISINFECTION PROCEDURE is scheduled. Full information of the disease and treatment indications are given, and the procedure is performed on the patient.

LAM-ORB

The soft-ware tries to emulate as close as possible the experience, technology, and findings of the LAM-ORB organization's research during the 1970s. Rumors about the reason of the sudden disappearance of the organization include human experimentation, chimeric pathogen development, and secret medical research.

Great experience and direction overall. Personally loved all the callbacks to Life and Death on DOS, it feels like a more isolating version of that and it's something I thought I'd never see. There was always something 'off' about that game to me, and Symptoms of Infection selects the most of the right elements from that, mainly the difficulty progression, the repetition, and the empty look of the patients. Some thoughts though. I think the game holds your hand for too long, as it's impossible to make the wrong decisions initially. I assume this is deliberate to create a false sense of safety before the ward is at capacity, where a lot more can go wrong but the disposition screen still remains linear and forced. The missteps are too consequential and aren't memorable, I'd love to hear flatlining, a warning from a senior doctor, or something else realistic there other than a fire animation. It also doesn't establish any context of location or your responsibilities, so it doesn't feel as scary knowing there isn't much at stake, something you can simply walk away from. It's a solid game with large potential. I have a good impression so far and look forwards to seeing how it eventual…

Has a lot of potential but in its current state borderline infuriating. Imagine a charming 8 bit version of a Last of Us game, but you can only really make 3 choices out of the hundreds presented, and 5/6 choices you could make result in an instant death. And this instant death results in you going back to the beginning of the game. Aside from quality of life things like that, though, I like the atmosphere, the premise, the ambience, the art and the cold-start intro. Could definitely feel my cortisol lower when I turned the game off. As others have said, it's good for its stage of production and I look forward to seeing it improve over time.

Very nice concept with A-tier atmosphere. Short playtime (30mn-1hr) but understandable since we're in the earliest stages of EA. Examination phase feels a little too "on-rails" however, and some mechanics could do with a bit more explanation.

It's an interesting concept for sure. Definitely appreciate its ability to inspire an unnerving tone. Only thing I would ask developers to change is adding clarification on the cellular treatment minigame. Everything up until then is pretty direct, yet the cellular treatment is incredibly vague and I have failed it multiple times resulting in what I take is either an ending, demo hard-stop, or game over. Having to repeat the game time after time to retry it since there's no save checkpoints, and now it feels like more of a chore than a good experience.

Thrilling game. Its amazing what one can create with 3MB The pixelart is satisfying tested for a few minutes then quit to not spoil the game DEV please add new features asap so we can fully enjoy it .

Even though its still in EA, this game haunts me now. The look is very much like the original DOS game Life & Death; the feel is terrifying dread. I've already thrown myself into the LAM ORB rabbit hole and the final image of this game shook something deep inside. The dread is high. I have questions but I'm afraid of the answers. We need to talk about Lucy. My god, download this game already!
