Players praise this TTRPG tool for being accessible to newcomers and families, with engaging pre-built campaigns that generate genuine fun and laughs during play sessions. However, common complaints center on its proprietary system that's incompatible with D&D, severe limitations for homebrew content (restrictive character and campaign customization, limited GM tools), and a monetization model that locks key features behind expensive DLCs, making free players feel pressured to buy campaigns rather than create their own.
Experience: I have played, 1,433.4 hrs of this game, I have customized, made my own homebrew fable craft campaigns, I have added over 800+ custom characters, more than 100 Scenes/battle maps, bought most of the packs (heist one came later and lost inspiration to continue engaging with this game)and used the monthly subscription. I invested many hours using this app because I enjoyed the simple systems and vtt. Many of my friends and I have made some memories here thx to our own creative input. With all that being said, I would only recommend playing this game if you plan to introduce people to simple Roleplay VTT, but as a long term platform it won't work. I will be putting the good & bad of this game. I stopped playing a couple months ago so lmk if any issue I have has gotten fixed, but performance has stayed the same from what I tried just before making this review. 🎲 Gameplay 6.5/10 Gameplay is simple. In combat you can drag your token to move, use an opening ability, and/or use an ability. Nothing crazy but it's always fun to see these animations as you do an attack on an enemy. However, certain restrictions like not being able to attack then move, seem unnecessarily holding…5 found this helpful
didn't spend an hour and I see some glairing issues. this software has real potential, but the lack of customization for homebrew campaigns, and the insistence of its own rules and NPCS kills any desire I have to use it.2 found this helpful
Insisting on its own dice system and its own homebrew stuff means it locks itself out to anything on the market. No dnd support usually means you already lost. Who wants to learn yet another system that is incompatible with one of the oldest if not the oldest ttrpgs on the market?2 found this helpful
A perfect example of a game that has the end goal of for-profit. Even if a developer says they made it with passion, money's at the center whether they argue or not. The game is free to download, but the free version (homebrewed campaigns) leaves something to desire. You basically have to purchase a pre-built campaign to even try out the ToFC TTRPG system, as there's not enough GM management and editing capabilities to feel useful. If you manage to have a multi-session homebrew campaign, I applaud you. WIth five custom characters at a time maximum, gming feels like you're dealing with a system that has a goldfish brain. Five character are used up in a single session. What happens if the party returns to a character created several sessions and over 20 characters ago? Do you remember everything about them? If you're looking for a homebrew campaign TTRPG-like video game system, play Divinity Original Sin II instead. You trade the graphical polish of ToFC for a game with: - As many custom characters and enemies as your computer can handle (since they're saved on your COMPUTER not the live-service slop this is) - Any number of props and items placed on detailed 3D maps - Built in sh…1 found this helpful
dead game, RIP
Currently playing through most of the campaigns with a group of my friends and so far this game has given us so many laughs over the duration of 2 campaigns (starting star seeker and halloween one's) that were always excited every week to play some more. I have been deciding to stream from ep 2 on to present and talking to my friends thinking about doing more homebrew things which is something that would be nice is having a homebrew spellbook/item index we can make and put into the game our-self in the future. Very easy to get into even with no dnd or TTRPG background with the starting guide, I understand having the pieces behind the dlcs for more homebrew ideas to take fold where i think some scenes should be with the base edition like the fortune teller. The ui can be a little tricky and duno if it's devs to prevent trolling the players but DM's is unable to remove items from players inventory say if given a wrong item and the player won't delete it could be a bother. I think something nice could be custom races as well for players to add in say arcane constructs to work with magic like androids with magitech to change things up, or hybrid races from parents of different backgr…
