This aside: - The fact I paid $300 for an ultimate license before they were forced to make it free. - I spent probably 20 hours persevering to learn the platform - it is very kludgy and not at all intuitive and still far from mastering it. - Not sure if they still have FGU Fantasy Grounds University but I joined a lot of those sessions to play the game with other players and learn the system If you are a hard core TTRPG player and have a group of friends to play with you should still expect to spend 10+ hours just mocking out playing a game before considering playing a group game. This is also assuming you are already comfortable playing the game IRL. Overall I would recommend this since it's the only Steam TTRPG I am aware of, but personally I am not sure I could get back into it. I have been away from it for a couple years now and it would take me a day of grind to shake the rust off before playing again.

I like that this app has enough market penetration that even mid tier games have been implemented. I have played a ton of Rifts for Savage World for example.

Charged me about $300 total for what is now free. That alone is a slap to the face. Every so often, they add a feature, which is immediately split off from the program and given it's own price tag. Things that other virtual tabletops just include. The books are a massive waste of money if you already own a copy, and just want to port stuff into the tabletop, but some actually port it in cleanly enough to be worth something, just not $50+. It's clunky at best, downright awful at other times. If your ruleset isn't a dlc, forget it, it just isn't worth trying to do it yourself. I've been using Foundry VTT for a while now and prefer it. This company is the epitome of "nickel and dime" for every feature they add. I only got it because my friends all had bought it already, and when I went to DM one time, two of my players couldn't buy it, so I bought Ultimate. Then they made the Unity version, and I had to pay for that version upgrade. What a scam. If you don't NEED this program, look elsewhere first. I pity the poor soul who does.
