Tattoos and Tulips is a quietly heartfelt visual novel that builds its identity around intimacy, emotional honesty, and the slow unfolding of a relationship shaped by vulnerability and trust. Developed by Meant to Bee Studios and published by Galen Games, it tells the story of Chrys, a florist who has grown guarded after past disappointments, and Shay, a tattoo artist whose presence begins to gently challenge that emotional distance. Rather than relying on dramatic twists or high-stakes conflict, the game focuses on small, personal moments, allowing its narrative to develop through conversation, shared experiences, and gradual emotional shifts. The structure is entirely linear, presenting itself as a kinetic visual novel where the player follows the story without making branching choices. This design removes the usual sense of agency found in many visual novels, but in exchange, it allows the narrative to maintain a clear and consistent tone. The story unfolds across multiple chapters, building a steady rhythm that prioritizes character development over plot-driven progression. For players who enjoy being guided through a carefully written narrative, this approach works well, thou…2 found this helpful
aldhfglshdgf WHY ARE THESE SO FREAKING ADORABLE!!!! ... ... ...Anyways Overall really enjoyed reading through this. The art was fantastic, and so was the voice acting! I enjoyed every moment of the story and getting to see their relationship blossom (no pun intended!) over time.
Although I would've loved to have an extra scene where we got to see Bea and Raine getting togehter!
That being said there were a few times where I felt Chrys, as a charcter, was being presented as too overdramtic.
Like when Chrys gets angry about Sahy wanting to "hang out" and feeling like he wasn't taking the relationship seriouly because of that specific word choice. Or how he didn't know if he was "in love" after they had been official for a month by that point.
There were also a couple of scenes where the day/night of the background didn't match with what the scene was describing. Especially at the one towards the end where they were stood in the rain. Then there was the ending. While it was very sweet (and I totally didn't cry!!!!) it did feel quite abrupt as it immedatley brought as back to the main menu after the last line. It honestly gave me a little b…1 found this helpful
Honestly, way better than I have any right expecting a free VN to be. Having no choices didn't bother me. I think a couple scenes didn't convey the writer's intentions properly, but that might be more on me than them. Overall, a really nice read. The world is definitely better with this in it.
Even if this game is a little bit on the short end. It still made me feel all sorts of feelings while playing it, and that is why I love this game, and also why this game will hit close to home to me, as the character "Granny" really reminds me of my now late deceased grandma, makes it all the more special and emotional for me. Thank you Tattoos and Tulips, means a lot to me :'-)
Free and readable in one sitting--you don't get any choices to change the story, so it's just a reader, but I enjoyed the narrative well enough! Cute art, fun characters, and well-walked tropes. A few mild misunderstandings, but nothing TOO frustrating, which is a difficult line to walk in this genre. Nothing ground-breaking, but a good time nontheless.
So freaking CUTE!
