The Crimson Diamond

This game was wonderful. I kinda dreaded the experience at first because I expected it to be like the Dagger of Amon-Ra, or to a lesser extent The Colonel's Bequest, where you could miss too much stuff, but I actually netted the best ending and a really high score on my first playthrough with not too much google-fu (I'm grieving rn gimme a break I could never FULLY rawdog a game like this). You need patience for parser/text based adventure games, as well as an awareness that just because you've found something, that doesn't necessarily mean you've picked it up. I found it could be quite forgiving, although I am aware there's certain instances of certain conversations leading to game overs if they have too much information (I alt+f4'd just so I wouldn't die lmao). But overall, I found the game to be much fairer than the old Roberta Williams type games. Really engrossing story, with fun characters and dialogue, and little neat rewarding touches like being rewarded for locking the door before you shower, or putting things back where you found them wherever possible. As I approached the endgame of my first playthrough, I thought the game was kind of short and simple. Then I got to the final questions and realized there was so much to discover. This is a richly detailed game, and I look forward to playing it a second time to pick up all the things I missed in my initial rush. I do wish the graphics were "SVGA" rather than "EGA," though. :-)

Wonderful blast from the past with a surprising amount of depth! Very few modern games offer this amount of intricacies in storytelling and it's genuinely impressive that this was the work of one single person who is obviously very passionate about her craft. If you can stomach some of the usual quirks of parsing hell to solve some puzzles (getting help is strongly advise if you seem stuck on some wordings), you'll be taken on a sweet adventure with an easy going ambiance that perfectly matches the ones found in those great late 80s Sierra and LucasArts games. Had a great time playing this and was even more impressed on my quick second playthrough. Ty Julia Minamata!
