The Greater Good

"ThisGameIsFun" is the password eh? how about this game is slow and plodding, you've got decent animations and movement, but the dialogue, battles, and menus are constantly bogging it down. I was giving it more of a chance before leaving a review but that just felt annoying on top of everything. Will update review if it improves, but currently, it's not looking good. There's a reason less than half the people who played it managed to get the very first progression achievement. Edit to add further play: Played a bit more: Softlocked your game. Other "high" points: NPC instructor telling you run away from too tough fights- No run away option in game. "Hey this cave is so dark, it's a lot darker than I remember!" - Brightest area in the game so far, first area I can actually see everything clearly. Then immediately after I leave the "dark" cave, it gets genuinely dark, and only gets darker from there until it's pure black area. "Warning, difficulty spike ahead!" - after you're beyond the point of no return and can't stock up on healing items or do any grinding to level up. This game is a disaster.

TLDR: I haven't written a review or 100%ed a game in years. Buy The Greater Good. Play The Greater Good. Played through family sharing (nobody knows how we got this game but it wasn't me) so I bought it again (with soundtrack) so I could give this review. This game was such a phenomenal find. I've been bouncing back and forth between so many games recently since nothing would keep my interest (even if I was enjoying them otherwise.) Saw this, and the simpler but still beautiful graphics I saw on the store page reminded me of countless indie/flash rpgs I played ages ago and I knew I had to try it. I was not disappointed. Locales, Enemies, chests and objects, weapons... They were all new, but felt so familiar. (THE NOSTALGIA I GOT FROM THIS MY GOD) Combat and progression felt balanced and fair, but if I had played this as a kid it would for sure have been on the harder side compared to most I played. (THIS IS A GOOD THING) The story had me hooked immediately. It's a classic hero's journey with so much heart, and for as small as the game is, the world, Flint and crew, and the supporting cast were vibrant and enjoyable. This is a simple and unchallenging turn based rpg It doesn't do anything ground breaking but its good It excels in its simplicity and does what it sets out to do very well I just wanted a game that I could live in and not have to make any major decisions or build complex characters and it delivered There is a lot that could be improved upon sure but at the price point it does better than some games four times the price

A sweet adventure that doesn't necessarily burst at the seams with grandeur, but proves to win hearts in its own way. The artstyle, music and characters all compliment each other nicely, to envelop you in a cool world that feels personal and immediate. Gameplay can be a bit repetitive and the element weakness/strengths wasn't entirely clear to me but I enjoyed my time tremendously nonetheless.

Low budget RPG/Adventure hybrid however nonsensically addicting enough for one run.

A fun and funny game with fantastic music.
