About The Light in the Darkness

The Light in the Darkness is a captivating role-playing game that takes players on an emotional journey through the dark times of the Nazi occupation of France during World War II. In this game, players take on the role of a Polish Jewish family living in Paris, experiencing the hardships and challenges they face as they try to survive in a world that is becoming increasingly hostile towards them.

Gameplay in The Light in the Darkness revolves around making choices and exploring the environment. Players will interact with various characters, engage in dialogue, and make decisions. The game's story is told through a mix of in-game events and documentary evidence, which adds a layer of authenticity to the experience.

The game also features a variety of simple mini-games, which help to break up the narrative and add variety to the gameplay.

One of the key features of The Light in the Darkness is its educational platform. Players will be able to access archives and photos, as well as explore history in a way that is designed to make Holocaust education accessible for all, including those who don't have the ability to visit museums.

The irony is crazy… acting like they’re the ones getting stepped on while they’re literally doing the same to Palestinians nowadays. Game feels like propaganda more than a story. Big nope from me 10/0

‘Look into my eyes and dare say that it never happened.’ After I sent Rich Brownstein an email about Shoah software, I did a simple search online for ‘Holocaust video games’ and found out that I had completely overlooked this work. The Light in the Darkness is the first (published) adventure game about the Shoah. Specifically, you play as a (petit bourgeois) Jewish family, as well as a couple of their friends, before and during the Axis occupation of France, and the story assigns you to a certain character depending on the section. This gives the audience a more personal connexion to the Shoah’s victims that would be harder to achieve in a book. Straightforward analyses of extermination campaigns certainly have their place, but tales like these are also needed to give the most serious students of history some emotional approximation of the events that took place. Although you play as several different characters throughout this adventure, they handle identically, apart from their movement speed and several minigames. The minigames are all easy: there is the French equivalent to Simon says, there is a portion where you have to assemble a toy fox, a Tetris-lik…

I can't say much about the content of the game - but on PC it's barely playable. I'm fine with keyboard only to replace gamepad controls, but things hardly work, interaction icons aren't near the thing you can interact with, on medium settings (i.e. without Global Illumination) most things are just black and you simply can't see necessary items, on high settings the framerate is abysmal and an already slow game becomes aggravatingly slow with constant screen tearing.

The game is so poorly optimized and the controls feel so bad that it detracts from the story, which is bad not just because this is a narrative-centric game, but because the story is about one of the most serious topics in history that should not be mismanaged.
