About The Odd Neon Void

The Odd Neon Void is an experimental Adventure/RPG game inspired by Atari 2600 and Commodore64 aesthetics. TONV brings elements from various videogame genres, such as action, adventure and RPG and combines with an original system of stats.
In TONV, you become Jack, a character stuck in a strange and unfamiliar reality: the neon void, which consists in three distinct dungeons. The neon void is filled with creatures called bugs, which you may want to kill in order to both survive and increase your stats. Throughout the gameplay, you may discover a series of notes that can also increase your stats and clarify the plot.
At the ending, depending on the choices you've made, you might expect different endings.

Found this game while it was on sale - I'm sorry for the dislike but it's much too bare-bones — with it lacking any music and poor fighting mechanics, but having what seems to be notes in some parts of the levels presumably attempting to tell some kind of underlying story. It's not terrible, just needs improvement is all. The walk speed is far too slow. It's unclear whether what I got was an ending or not, as it softlocked the game and I had to alt-f4. As of the time of writing, I haven't gotten any of the other endings besides the one where
Jack takes his pills and gets back to bed.
But to anyone seeing this review, don't let this negative view discourage you from playing the game, while it needs improvement, it's not horrible, just a bit tedious and feels somewhat unfinished. I really do think it's still worth a play or two, but maybe catch it when it's on sale like I did.

The Odd Neon Void is an experimental indie adventure RPG developed by Conmtrast and published by LGV, designed as a surreal descent into a hostile, glowing dimension that feels deliberately alien and disorienting. From the moment the game begins, it becomes clear that atmosphere and retro stylization are at the forefront of its identity. Rather than offering cinematic storytelling or contemporary design polish, it embraces an intentionally primitive aesthetic inspired by early home console and computer eras, presenting players with a neon-saturated labyrinth that feels both nostalgic and unsettling. You step into the role of Jack, a character who finds himself inexplicably trapped within the mysterious neon void. The world is composed of stark corridors, flashing patterns, and minimalistic dungeon spaces inhabited by aggressive creatures known as bugs. There is little exposition to explain how or why Jack has arrived here. Instead, the narrative unfolds indirectly through scattered notes and environmental clues. This sparse storytelling approach reinforces the sense of isolation, encouraging players to piece together fragments of lore while navigating an environment that offers fe…

The Odd Neon Void is a surreal experience of a... game, you are told nothing about how to play other than through trial and error, the bugs can teleport to "nothing personal kid" you, and the ending breaks the game to the need of alt f4. 10/10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000…
