Players are divided on this short, solo-developed Castlevania-like game, with its striking Gigeresque art direction being its strongest asset. Critics point to stiff controls, frustrating combat with excessive trial-and-error gameplay, and weak platforming mechanics that don't justify the purchase price, while some defenders appreciate the old-school Metroid-style atmosphere and claim the gameplay is smoother than detractors suggest, noting it rewards using alternate weapons strategically. The core disagreement centers on whether the atmospheric visual design can compensate for the underlying

Very interesting game in both concept and execution. I was really interested in playing it myself after watching gameplay snippets. Sadly, my experience was cut short by my own hardware - defective arrow keys. Controller is also out of my realm of possibilities at the moment. Still, I think this game deserves a large thumbs up for aesthetics alone (and a ). Sega Genesis-style ambient is just the icing in the dark and gloomy cake. Controls are responsive and platform hopping is fun, which is an immediate +1 to the overall enjoyment. I would love to experience it in full if or when alternative control layout will be added to the game. Hope this reaches much wider audience

Edited review after all achievements on third playthrough. Completed first run in 87 min. It's short, but good. Art direction was the initial draw for me, despite being a little put off by some negative reviews re: the gameplay, I was surprised that it actually feels smooth like the original Metroid. No jank here. It's just old school gameplay. It has enemies that can knock you off platforms, but it's not that hard. It's usually just a case of using your "alt fire" weapon instead of trying to conserve ammo. If you're old enough to remember Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga and the original Metroid on the NES, you recognise the atmosphere of isolation in a hostile, bleak alien environment. Although far more simple than both of those games, this is not a bad thing and it was well worth the money for the unique experience. Looking forward to the developer making a longer game, whilst keeping the minimalist focus. "Hidden gem" is quite an overused term, but this game is certainly one.
