As the ruler of a province in the Western Peninsula, it will be expected of you to hold court and make yourself available to petitioners, settling disputes and delivering justice to the land and its inhabitants.
The War for the West is a grimdark 485,000 word interactive medieval fantasy novel by Lucas Zaper.
Among your duties will be to administer the money collected from taxes and see that it is well spent, be it in improvements to the local infrastructure or in purchasing personal objects and services. You will also need to manage your relationship with other powers and arrange a proper suitor for marriage, which will serve both to ensure the continuation of your lineage and consolidate your alliances.
But even if diplomacy fails, the military will always be at your command, ready to suppress rebellions and defend your fief against foreign invaders. To guarantee their supremacy in the field of battle, you must keep a steady flow of recruitment and enforce constant training.
Alas, not all problems can be dealt with by soft words and sharp blades. In such circumstances, one may find that there is little a few drops of poison or a well-placed agent cannot solve.
This all may appear overwhelming at first, but you will count with the assistance of your counselors, each with their own specialties. Their advice will prove invaluable as you navigate through the dangerous dynamics of the realm’s politics.

You make decisions that influence your people, army, treasury, and reputation and ultimately the fate of your province and beyond. It’s one of the most impressively open-ended interactive fiction games out there. The sheer range of choices—from marrying into powerful dynasties to secretly joining death cults—is staggering. But it’s also a game that suffers from its ambition. The presentation is spartan, the mechanics are often opaque, and the pacing can feel disjointed or even arbitrary at times. 🪶 [b] Pros: [/b] [list] [*] Massive freedom of roleplay. You can shape your noble however you like: idealist reformer, ruthless tyrant, cunning manipulator, mystic cultist. Few games offer this much tonal and moral flexibility. It's good. It features many different endings, but the game is quite short overall. I really like how the events happen randomly in every playthrough.
Great game
It's fun but relatively short (I finished in about 7 hours) and there's barely any depth to the characters and a lack of follow up on a lot of decisions and discoveries. The writing is concise and easy to digest, but It's mostly a resource management game with a low fantasy dressing. I'd recommend getting it on sale.
War for the West is a great simulation of a low-fantasy noble in a medieval setting, with many possible events and variations I've doubtlessly not even glimpsed of yet. I'd be surprised if a sequel comes out, due to the highly branching nature of the endings, but it'd be great to see!
One of the best game you can find in Hosted Games, it has lot of arts and a nice gameplay system pretty unique respect to other types of medieval games from Hosted Games.. if you are a fan of game of thrones or medieval with a sudden fantasy plot twist you will 100% fall in love with this, the game has tons of replayability and it will surprise you each time. I totally reccomend this. Also a sequel is coming!
