Totem Clash

Totem Clash is a really cute strategy game that surprised me with how well it combines block matching, tower defense and roguelike progression. I collect blocks, use them to summon units and then send those units against ghosts occupying different areas. I liked how simple the basic idea is, because I can understand what I am doing almost immediately while still having room to think about the combinations I want to build. The block system is the heart of the gameplay. Matching blocks of the same unit lets me summon and strengthen that unit, while certain combinations activate special effects. I enjoyed experimenting with these because collecting a particular unit is not always enough. I also have to think about which units work well together and how I can build a useful overall army from the blocks I receive. The race effects give the strategy another layer. Collecting enough members of the same race can activate additional bonuses, so I am constantly deciding whether to focus on one group or build something more mixed.
