Twinkle Hunter

Just finished the game today, it took me about 5 hours across a few play sessions. This is a boss rush game, and in my opinion a quite good one at that. The pixel art is really excellent, it reminds me of the style of Dungreed. Very fluid animation, lots of action lines for fluid motion, and exaggerated effects. Telegraphing for attacks seemed quite good, but you can still get hit without expecting it. The music is good, each boss has their own theme and the music is intense when it needs to be. The sound effects are also good, but I found the shooting and SFX of hitting an enemy to be grating. I won't spoil how many bosses there are, but there are quite a few more than I anticipated. The main thing with this game is that the bosses have lots of visual and pattern variety. The first few bosses are really simple, but they amp up in complexity, spectacle, and how interesting their patterns are to dodge. If you want to try the game, at least beat the first 3 or 4 before you give it a fair judgement. The first few are too simple, and it's a lot more interesting after you get past them. First of all, be warned, this game is hard! And it gets increasingly harder as you progress. However, there are many different mechanics with which the player can lower the difficulty. That being said, it is mostly fair, and it is possible to no-hit the bosses with enough practice. For how obscure this game is, I must admit I was surprised with how well it really plays. The controls are tight, and the simple visuals help the player in not getting lost within fights. They seem generic on a surface level, but when playing they are colourful and vibrant, and the animations are also fluid, which is important for a game of this genre. Moreover, the boss designs were original and distinct from one another, from the visual themes to the fights themselves, so the game never gets stale. The upgrades shop is varied and refreshes gameplay, but some of the weapons being a bit underpowered. One of the few things I didn't like was the storytelling, which was bland (not the plot itself, rather the way it is presented). The music was serviceable, but nothing spectacular. The game is really fun and the enemy designs are fabulous.

Might even be better then cuphead.
