I would’ve enjoyed it much more if you actually had to type the story dialogue to progress, instead of just typing random words to beat enemies. the story mode is not finished, you can only play endless mode, but it get boring fast. (I'll play again and edit the review when the game is out of Early Access).

Typing with Jester, developed and published by Netnip Ltd., is a retro-inspired typing arcade game that transforms keyboard practice into a lighthearted action challenge. Built around an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent of handheld classics, the game merges educational utility with arcade-style pressure, asking players to defeat waves of enemies by typing words accurately and quickly. While its scope is modest and its Early Access status has shaped its development path, the core idea remains charmingly straightforward: your typing speed is your weapon. The central gameplay loop is simple but effective. Enemies approach the player character, and each foe is labeled with a word that must be typed correctly before it reaches you. Accuracy and speed determine survival, turning traditional typing drills into a reactive experience. The faster and more precise you are, the more effectively you dispatch enemies and rack up points. This structure encourages players to improve their typing skills organically through repeated play, offering both practice and entertainment in equal measure. The game features a short story mode alongside an endless survival mode. The story mode introduces basic me…

Bought help me with russian, it's been the funniest! This silly song playing while I scurry to form words that look as if they came out of a DnD dialect that I don't even know how to pronounce yet. I love Jester, man. Besides this is one smart dev for adding more languages, most typing games don't make use of this opportunity. (Would be even greater if text-to-speech was available!)

A very asterisk-heavy *conditional* recommend. It's a cute and functional typing game. HOWEVER, it is VERY light on content. Currently consists of three levels and an Endless Mode. Response time is snappy and the word library is decent for the amount of current content available. The included color swatches are a nice extra. My playtime for 100% was about 20 minutes -- two or three of which was spent taking 100 screenshots for the final achievement. Perhaps if you're not a particularly skilled typist, you might end up spending more time in Endless Mode, but I only had to play through it once. Any time beyond that (at least until the next content update) will likely be for trading cards. It was launched in 2017, but was dropped for a while and then picked back up in 2024. Updates (although mostly small) seem to be fairly regular since then. Unless you really just want to throw the dev a fiver though, I can't in good conscience recommend paying full price for this. That being said, if you like the idea of supporting a solo dev who is providing steady updates, it is often discounted to around a dollar. Not the worst thing you could spend 100 pennies on.

Type the words as they come towards you. Includes capitals and punctuation, and a surprisingly small library of words. If you're a good typer, this is dead simple. There are only 3 of (unknown) levels as of this review. No content and no challenge makes this a bad activity.
