Usagi Yojimbo: Way of the Ronin is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by HappyGiant that brings Stan Sakai’s legendary samurai rabbit to the world of video games. Drawing heavily from the long-running comic series, the game places players in the role of Miyamoto Usagi as he journeys across a stylized version of feudal Japan, battling bandits, warriors, and other threats in an effort to restore order. Rather than attempting to reinvent the character through modern gaming trends, the developers chose to embrace the spirit of classic arcade beat-'em-ups, creating an experience that feels like a tribute to an earlier era of action games. One of the game's greatest strengths is its respect for the source material. The world, characters, and enemies are inspired directly by the comics, giving longtime fans an authentic adaptation that captures the tone and charm of Usagi Yojimbo. The story serves as a framework for the action, allowing players to encounter familiar faces and villains while progressing through a variety of stages. Even players who have never read the comics can appreciate the unique setting, which stands out from the more common fantasy and science-fict…1 found this helpful
could be better but it's pretty fun1 found this helpful
My heart wants to give this a thumbs up, especially for Usagi fans. Cuz so far from what I've seen reaching the mansion, it IS pretty close to the comics story and all that. And I like the artstyle of the game with it staying true to Stan Sakai's style. But at the same time, I wanna give it a thumbs down, cuz as the complaints been saying. This game kinda IS mind numbingly super easy? And while I basically see ALL Beat them up games as "Button mashers" this game is ESPECIALLY THAT, if that makes sense. Like, its very hard to take damage, you basically only have 2 buttons to use for combat and i dunno. I definitely agree, like this IS meant for those who are Usagi fans and don't really care about how the game plays. (Which I am. Beat 'em ups arent usually my type of game to play, but I freaking love Usagi Yojimbo, I used to own ALMOST every one when I was a child and it's so cool seeing this in game form) But- yeah. Be wary about playing or buying this if you're a fan. Its definitely not for everyone. It's basically only for SPECIFICALLY THE Usagi fans and nothing else.
As a game, it is very bad. Brainless combat, no challenge, horrible animation, repetitive stages, terrible hit detection. Arrows seem to never hit. Lining up shots is near impossible especially with flying enemies because there are no shadows. Just press buttons until all things die. As a Usagi Yojimbo story, however, it's pretty solid. You can tell Sakai himself had a hand in it, as the characters are well represented and it's nice to see them, I honestly wish they were involved more and that there were more of them. It builds upon Usagi's most famous and epic story about Grasscutter and for the most part is a pretty good narrative. Honestly worth playing for that alone. At 5 bucks, don't bother, but if you can find it cheap or free, it's worth spending an hour and a half mindlessly hacking through this for a very nice story if you're a fan of the character.
Completely unplayable mobile phone garbage. Too bad, because graphics is cute and we do need new Usagi game. I wish they simply modernized C64 Usagi Joyimbo Way of Ronin
The art style is fine, it fits the Usagi Yojimbo universe. The game is bad. Bad enemy AI, you can just spam one attack to win. Controller support is ok at best. The main story and cutscenes is fine. I bought the game to support the Usagi Yojimbo franchise. You are better off playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Usagi is playable and that game is well polished. 5/10 game!
