It's a good game. I think the game really shines in terms of artstyle, animation and combat. Combat feels pretty nice. Haptics are also very nice. Though I feel like level design leave a lot to be desired because fundamentally they all will be the same. Do a task, get chased by something, boss fight, and repeat. Abilities are also lowkey underwhelming. I think the game really shines in boss fights and the arcade game mode imo.2 found this helpful

Looks incredible, plays incredible. The game shares more in common with something like Mark of the Ninja in terms of map/level structure than something like a metroidvania (which I happen to love). Honestly, the gameplay is what I imagine Revenge of Shinobi might have felt like if they had controllers with more buttons back in the day. It's modernised "old school" in one of the best and purest ways and IMO is the best franchise rejuvenation game I can think of. Runs flawlessly on Steam Deck too! If you find yourself even remotely interested in this game, just buy it, I honestly do not think you will be disappointed. Disclaimer: I'm about 3/4 through the game, not yet completed - I still feel strongly enough about it to rate it, though!1 found this helpful
As of writing I have everything and am only missing 4 achievements at 15.4hrs so 20hrs total playtime roughly. Its not exactly like the original Shinobi games, they were single left to right stages and were more about throwing shuriken than using your sword. Shinobi Art of Vengance is more hack n slash and is sort of a metroidvania most levels are pretty straightforward but collectibles and bonus challenges are hidden. You will need to beat most of the game to get the movement upgrades to find everything. It has a lot of nods to the series for long time fans while being new like most old 2D classics it is a soft reboot but I was expecting a update of a ll Shinobi 3 bosses so I was pleased to find brand new bosses with a brand new story. Difficulty is perfect it eases you in and gets progressivly more difficult with each level, This includes the challenges. Theres one final level extra challenge that was frustrating it took me over an hour its easier than Cyber Shadow and The Messenger though. I would highly recommend this it comes highly recommended
