VIETNAM WAR PLATOON 越战排 (AI WAR Game) is a very unusual little strategy game, and I liked how different its approach feels from the usual military games. Instead of constantly controlling every soldier, I am more like a commander watching a battle unfold while the AI handles much of the fighting. I found that idea surprisingly relaxing, while the unpredictable results can still make each battle feel tense. The main gameplay is built around a card and flag system with automatically controlled combat. I can prepare my team, choose equipment and then watch the soldiers react to the situation. I liked not having to micromanage every movement because it lets me focus on what is happening across the battlefield. At the same time, the randomness means I cannot completely rely on having better equipment to guarantee a victory. The weapons also give the battles some interesting variety. Different weapons have their own accuracy, damage and range, while soldiers can use various equipment and even call in artillery support.
