MOTORSLICE

Some platformers offer open worlds to casually explore while others present players with obstacle courses to overcome. MOTORSLICE mixes the two with open areas broken up by A to B platforming sequences. My favorite aspect of the game is the lack of invisible walls. You are perfectly free to climb on decorative objects and explore areas you weren't meant to be, and doing so is why it took me so much longer to clear the game than most. In doing so I found many beautiful views, and also certain death. Falling from moderate heights is deadly, and the protagonist is lacking in methods of safe descent. However, she is talented at moving up and over. Many of her parkour moves flow fluidly from one to the next, and the main paths are designed to allow you to do just that. It's quite fun to traverse sections as smoothly as possible. However, moving through the optional areas in ways that are not intended will reveal just how finnicky the controls can get. Running along a wall in the wrong direction is frustrating regardless of whether you needed to be there or not. i have a lot to say so im gonna break to down into sections buyt ehre the TL;DR its good but everything good has at least one downside that made the game at times frustarting. Visually: it's very very well done. greys, and drowns really complement the brutalist architeture that the game goes with and all the organe really helps guide the path. Although i think there needed to be more orange marks because on occasion you'll just be left alone with a bunch of grey buildings and told to fgiure it out. On top o fthis the dark areas can be quite a hassle as I found the flashlight to be not enough in a lot of cases and had to wall hug in a lot of cases. Audio: the music is sparce but striking and the voice acting is amazing, Gianni and Kira are two of the all time goats of VA. Combat: comabt is really tight and highly volitaile. you die in one hit and have a somehwaht demanding parry, but most enmies also die in one hit and combat is not a huge focus. there are section where it is require but you never have to kill more thana a handful of enmies at once and teh focus is really on the platforming. Suck at the game so I missed some orbits. Not sure if P hand still gets corrupted if you get all the answers right, but in my run, almost two of her fingers turned black. 13 hours in, 137 orbits collected, 444 deaths

Motorslice, in the scene of parkour-based platformers, is another one of those games. It doesn't really try anything new, but it's not that it actually wants to. The gameplay is fun, and has a sort of "cozy" atmosphere going on for the most part. The fighting is not innovative nor complex, but motorsclicing through bosses is cool and serve as cinematic climax moments for each chapter. You can also parry pretty much everything which is awesome. Speaking of, each chapter tries to bring something new to the table, but keeps the usual gameplay around, with only a few new mechanics being introduced. The average gameplay loop is jumping, swinging, pole-hugging and motorslicing. You may get a giant fan in one chapter or a sawtrap in another, but that's it. The hacking mechanics in the end were cool but they come and they go quickly. The story is almost non existent. What I understood from it was only from a few drops here and there, but neither the setting nor the lore are never explained fully. Not a bad thing at all. It's not important for the gameplay.
