About We Are Terror: The First Days

A war is coming between Man and Myth. A war which will rage across the world and wreak terrible devastation. Witness how it starts!

This is a reading adventure where you make choices to help the protagonist of each chapter survive to the end, so they can live on to impact the coming war. At the same time, the wrong choices offer their own rewards as they lead you down paths that explore more of the characters and the lore. No choice leads to a plot-line that is irrelevant and inconsequential, which means that though there are wrong choices, there are no bad ones.
 • Hours worth of reading.
 • Experience the start of a war between Man and Myth from four different, unique points of view.
 • Play with Edwards, ex-SEAL operative now working for the Secret Service, and help her survive the very first contact with vampires.
 • Play with Joseph, European king of Vampires, as he strives to convince all the other races and tribes of myths to come together, and wage war on Humanity.
 • Play with McKenzy, SAS officer, as he stumbles into the very first real battle with werewolves.
 • Play with Santiago, Navy SEAL officer, and help him survive the very first day of the war.
 • Achievements reward every story branch exploration, can you find them all?
 • You can configure your reading experience by manipulating the volume of the reading music as well as the automatic typing of the text.
 • Look for the perfect ending, avoid that final disappointing sentence: "things could have gone better".

We Are Terror: The First Days is not a game, it's an e-book/Choose Your Own Adventure. As an interactive e-book, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, coupled with a few largely pointless question/prompts that don't suddenly turn this into a proper interactive video game or anything. To explain how this non-game got here, when someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This Choose Your Own Adventure is particularly lazy, often to make an e-book seem more like a game, the author will include some artwork or something, often asset flipped or made by an "artwork" generator of some kind like "IIcharacter", but the author didn't even bother with that here, it's just text. And if it's just text, why is this launched on Steam as a game at all? This could be done in a web browser. This is Steam, not Firefox. There's some kind of man vs supernatural thing in the plot of this e-book, but not really being a game, it's mostly irrelevant. E-b…
We Are Terror: The First Days — 2.8h | 25/25 Achievements | Finished (all endings) | Steam Deck: Playable

TL;DR: Free text-based RPG/interactive novel about humans vs vampires. I cleared every ending and achievement… and still felt like I was reading a draft of a war I’ve already seen 200 times. If you love pure text, maybe. If you need “game” in your game: skip.
I went in thinking: “Free game, vampire war, multiple endings… why not?” Two-point-eight hours later, I had all endings, all achievements, and one big realization: I basically volunteered to be a beta reader. No shade to reading (I read), but when the gameplay loop is read → click → read → click, the bar is higher: the writing needs to slap. Here… it’s mostly “classic factions at war” with familiar beats and not enough spice to justify the length.
QUICK SNAPSHOT

[th]Genre / Style[/th]Text-based RPG / Interactive fiction (almost no visuals)

[th]Core Loop[/th]Read choices → pick an option → follow consequences → reach an ending

[th]Time to Fun[/th]Depends if you enjoy pure text; for me it turned “long” fast…
