About Wonderful Handhelds
Wonderful Handhelds is a game that allows you to collect and play fictional retro LCD games, inspired by classic devices from the 80s and 90s.
Hi! I'm a dad making games under the name of Dad's Indie Studio. I'm also an avid collector of retro devices, especially Game&Watch and Tiger Electronics, along with other lesser-known brands and models.
This game is a way to share my passion for collecting and playing video games in their simplest and purest form.
In this early access release, you'll explore Cursed Castle, the first of three planned handheld games. This game pays homage to classic dungeon adventures with spooky skeletons, locked doors, and hidden keys.
Try the demo where "your friend" lends you the first handheld game, Cursed Castle.
You can play through the entire game and complete it!
Please note that in the full version, you’ll gain access to additional features such as score saving, the game manual, and the box, along with two more games to explore in the future.
Wonderful Handhelds is a truly indie game I’m developing in my spare time.
Your Wishlists and Support during early access will help fund the project and bring Wonderful Handhelds to life. Join the adventure and be part of the game's development journey!

Not bad for what it's trying to do. Small game designed to play on your nostalgia for Tiger Electronics handheld games of the past. I can't review much right now, seeing as it's a small project and you'll see all it has to offer in about 15 mins. First of all, I should mention the UI showing us the handheld and pushing the buttons on screen as quite cool. The design of it is sleek and simple, my only issue is that it may be a bit TOO zoomed out to play in this view for longer than a minute. Anyway, here's the first game. "Cursed Castle" A dungeon exploring game with about 20-ish rooms. There's some element of skill with timing your attacks, and the dev notes you can beat the game without the shield defensive option, which is nice. I was kind of bothered by the fact that the shield is just an infinite hold and there's no timing to that blocking whatsoever, meaning every enemy (of which there are only 3) is handled the exact same way (run up to them and hold block). The character designs and wind-up animations are charming, and moving about the castle is quick and feels nice. They could probably expand on this idea and throw in two more palette swap dungeons, and it would probably…5 found this helpful
Good ideas are happening here, it has potential if we get more games and features. Looking forward to it.3 found this helpful
The game description made me think this was something like TCG card sim, but collecting retro games. Turns out its 1 game which takes 10 minutes to get all the achievements. Disappointed with this.3 found this helpful
I don't have time to play long games so I appreciate this short format a lot. Now I'm waiting for more handheld minigames like this one, had a great time finishing it. Lots of childhood nostalgia too.2 found this helpful
