About Woodland Saga

Woodland Saga is a turn-based versus (online) strategy game.

In Woodland Saga you lead an army of woodland critters against an AI or against another player. Your goal is to either destroy your opponent's base camp or capture 3 different magical shrines.

During your turn you can either play an army card from your hand which places a group unit onto the board, or you can assign a new command to a group unit that is already on the board.

Knowing when and where to place units and when and where to move them to will be key in winning the game as different biomes, height difference, towns and other components will make a meaningful impact on your decisions.

Features
 • online play against other players
 • 15+ different cards to find
 • hours of fun!

Controls
 • camera pan with WASD
 • camera rotating with RMB
 • zoom with mouse wheel
 • use cards and move units with LMB

Looks like a fun game but there is currently NO WAY to play online or with your friends because me and my friend couldnt connect to a server. Very dissappointing! :(

It has cute visuals, but unfortunately also several issues:

The AI pathfinding sucks (my troops walked several times into visible stronger enemies/death instead of around them).
So does the barely existing music.
You can't undo orders, so if you misclick in the heat of the battle, then... fuck you I guess!...
crashed more than once
I only recommend this with a heavy heart, because it's cheap and the idea behind it is appealing. I somehow sort of like the game, but hope the devs work on and improve it a lot in the future...

At the moment the multiplayer does not work. Also I find the progression to be boring and way too grindy. If you're looking for a quick fun time and expecting something like stacklands don't buy this game.

Sokpop S09: Woodland Saga is one of the more experimental and ambitious projects in Sokpop Collective’s long-running Sokpop Season lineup, shifting the studio’s usual focus on short-form puzzles and playful simulations toward a lightweight but demanding tactical strategy game. While it retains the collective’s signature charm and minimalist presentation, Woodland Saga aims to deliver something more systemic: turn-based battles, unit management, and competitive decision-making framed within a whimsical world of woodland creatures. This blend of cute aesthetics and surprisingly serious strategy defines the game’s identity and shapes both its strengths and its frustrations. At its core, Woodland Saga is a turn-based tactics game played on grid-based maps where players command small armies of animals such as mice, birds, and other forest inhabitants. The primary objectives are clear and easy to grasp—either destroy the enemy’s base or control key points on the map—yet the path to achieving those goals is layered with tactical considerations. Units must be deployed carefully, movement choices matter, and positioning can determine the outcome of entire matches. Despite its simple contro…

The Singleplayer isn't bad but it isn't Good, you have to beat 3 matches to get a new card and when I did that I couldn't even apply the new card. Plus i'm pretty sure it resets your progress when you log out like most sokpop games but this one you have to grind to get all the cards so resetting the progress isn't acceptable. Also the AI has pretty OP troops so when all you have is the starter cards then it's pretty hard to win you basically have to pick a map where the shrines are right next to you. For Multiplayer it is unplayable. It's basically like polytopia/civilization if the music sucked, it was a small map, and had cards for some reason.

i like this game only just realised the bad reviews while looking for a discord or something see if anyone wanted to play honestly in my opinion this is a pretty fire game once you get a strat down for the ai its fun to just watch stuff and play and some guy said its impossible cuz the ai usually has higher level cards than the player but tbh i think it makes it a good challenge to find out what cards to be scared of and different ways to win matches and having it take 3 skirmishes to get a card is annoying but the progression would be to fast without it so pick your poison I guess. if you have the money to spend then get it has cool devs and you can always refund it anyway.
