About You're Not Special

You're Not Special is a (mostly) non-combat, choices-matter, puzzle-based RPG. There are great forces set to doom the small kingdom in which you live and only the chosen one can stop them. The problem is, you're not the chosen one. Features:

- Choices that radically shape the outcome of the game leading to seven different game endings
- Unique and challenging puzzles coupled with new takes on classic puzzles
- An original score by Lighting Nights
- Exploration, rich dialogue, and choices-driven narrative
- A one-life mode for super hardcore peeps
- Non heavy-handed lore that is woven into the story, bits at a time

You are just a peasant. You were never born for greatness. And yet, for some reason fate has woven you into the company of The Chosen One. Will you help The Chosen One fulfill his destiny? Or will you keep quietly to yourself in town? The choices (and their lasting consequences) are yours to make!

NOTE: If you receive this error upon startup: "Your profile cannot be used because it is from a newer version of NW.js," note that you can still play the game and the error is harmless (it simply comes from you having a newer version of software that this game uses). However, if you would like to fix the error (mega annoying, right?), please follow the following steps:

On Windows 10, this would be in Users > Your User Name > App Data > Local. Find the folder labeled "nwjs" and delete it. Then, go to the folder Users > Your User Name > App Data > Local > User Data > Default and delete the two files "Web Data" and "Web Data-journal." The folder and files will be repopulated when you start the game and the error message should be gone!

On Mac, navigate to Your User Name > Library > Application Support and delete the folder labeled "nwjs." Then, go to the folder Your User Name > Library > Application Support > Default and delete the two files "Web Data" and "Web Data-journal." The folder and files will be repopulated when you start the game and the error message should be gone!

If you have any further problems or just need assistance with this process, please do not hesitate to contact us on our website or our community discord.

I really wanted to continue this game. However, despite the fact that it's mostly non-combat, I found some of the action parts too difficult. I decided to give up since they were probably only going to get worse! Some puzzles also required very exact timing if you didn't want to be squished by a rock, and there were places where it wasn't obvious what to do next. (Who on earth finds that fox without Googling it?) To be fair, most people will probably have few problems with the gameplay, but as a pregnant mother playing while completely exhausted at bedtime, I just didn't have the reflexes to grapple with it, and I certainly don't have the time to turn the game on in the early morning just to get through the next tricky bit. The story was also a bit lacklustre. The problem with these "you've lost your memory" games is that your character has no personality or backstory and has no idea what's going on, which never makes for a strong plot hook. The protagonist is chasing a random man without being able to articulate why or even who he is; you'd have thought that they might be a bit more bothered about remembering their own identity. Still, the plot may become more compelling …

What a great game! Fun puzzles, clever dialogue, and a fun and engrossing world! You're Not Special is a clever take on a traditional story. It was a lot of fun!

A joy. I have five different saves I'm playing at once, because I constantly want to go back and find out what happens if I make different choices. This little game is fantastic, it packs a big punch, and is quite cute. Just challenging enough to keep me trying the same bits over & over for hours but not so challenging that I give up. Have been telling all my friends.

For my full review, please visit https://themommygamers.com/2019/03/01/youre-not-special/ Ultimately, it is the fact that this game meets each of my tenants for a good indie game that makes me recommend it for your wishlist. It is fun, the fact that it was even made (and by a single game developer I might add) is inspiring and the entire concept is interesting. All this and at reasonable price. This is why indie games can be great. Welcome to the golden age.

First: I didn't find it aaas amazing as the previous reviewers, compared to other games that I've played. BUT ... I'm definitely charmed and enriched. And grateful that this game was made. :-) The game is an interesting essay on what might happen if someone else is the hero. I liked the experience. Exploring that other perspective. I liked it a lot. I like also how there's many philosophically/psychologically interesting thoughts voiced by different characters weaved in throughout the game. One playthrough is rather short. It took me ~4 hours. Clearly, the focus is not on telling a long, complex story, but a short, magical one with different choices that lead to different endings. There are 10 endings, so I guess you'd have to multiply the playing time by a few times, minus time for things like puzzles, which I think you'd just do again the same way each replay? Although the puzzles are well done, so if you let some time pass between playthroughs, they'd have replay value. There's only one town, one forest and three dungeons. The story rushes through its story beats quickly - once you figure out what to do next. The lore feels real and mysterious, but not very extensive. I like …
