Zero Sum Future

Right off the bat, this is a fairly niche game, and I made the mistake of only doing one or 2 of the tutorial, scenarios, I guess I would call them, before deciding that I could hop right in. That wasn't really a wise decision, but it kind of gave me a general idea of how things worked so that I could play around a little more, and I failed. The next thing I did was hop into another tutorial and voila, I had to do be doing something right or else I wouldn't get to the next bits. Once I got there, I could manage. Pros: +It's a different concept. Imagine a RTS style, but without raising an army, and with having to balance needs, kind of like a SimCity, or Civ game. +It's fast paced; you see the effects from your actions pretty much immediately. +Game world seeding. +Once you learn how it works, you can jump right in. Cons: -The GUI isn't really the best when you're starting out. You adapt to it and learn where things are really quickly, and what to watch for. Other thoughts: There's no save function, but, that I think that would be due to the teams plan to make it primarily a multiplayer game. I'm going to give them a pass on that one. These are my [b]first impressions[/b] after 2 hours also known as [i]The Point of No Refund[/i]. [b]PROS:[/b] + Space capitalism is perhaps even more cruel and brutal than direct conflict seen in classic RTS :) I really like the core idea and the name is incredibly fitting. + Planets have rather intersting terrain as opposed to being boring spheres. This adds to challenge of efficiently placing buildings. + Being able to see others planets in the sky of your world is really awesome! + Game is fast paced, yay \o/ I didn't play a real human game yet, but expansion is fast and so is the end when you run out of money. + Multiplayer focus. I yet have to test netcodez, but I look forward to playing this with my friends one day. + Devs are active on discord. They fixed a crash I hit on the same day and they seemed eager to receive feedback. + First update since I own the game brought some visible improvements. Zero Sum Future seems pretty neat, and is one of the more unique strategy games I have seen recently. I only saw that it was having a free weekend right before the time was up, so I did not get a lot of hands on experience with the game, but it seems neat and interesting to me so far. The game makes me think of a sort of economy focused planetary annihilation kind of thing, where the focus is on base building in space.

In this video I take a look at Zero Sum Future, a space economy sim. This game gave me the impression it was going to be an RTS strategy with exploration but I was stuck on the one planet playing an economy sim instead. The focus of the game was simply trying not to go broke before your opponent did. I'm not sure where their exploration comes into it? Possible a much later upgrade opens another planet? It was pretty one dimensional and it all felt pie in the sky, just a mad dash to get cash while trying not to overspend and go bankrupt. Remember Planetary Annihilation? Well remove all the fun and make it about accountancy. Not my cup of tea. I have massive respect for the development of this game. There is a lot of effort put into this game and I just love the complete feel of the game experience. Truth is I have not won a single multiplayer game and I am ok with this. I learn more and more about the game as I play. Playing the tutorial is fun and informative. It does not give you more than you need to know to make the next step successfully. There even some humour to be found in the tutorial. The game play is super fast paced based on your opponents. I love that if you drop out of the game due to bad internet you can rejoin the game unlike many other multiplayer games. I love the many strategies that can be used to set up a win and each can be used due to your own personal choices.
