Swarm, an ancient AI turned malevolent and spiteful is waging a war on all life. Having narrowly escaped complete destruction at the hands of organics he both hates and fears them. The AI grows massive, devouring entire planets to fuel and construct his unstoppable armies in an unending vendetta against organic life. Swarm’s armies of nanoform soldiers fair no better. The prototype Z series IQ nanite (ZIQ) is currently being put through countless experiments to improve the soldier’s neural network.

These torturous tests take the form of treacherous obstacle courses that ZIQ must complete. With nanoforms’ ability to endless reconstruct, death offers no respite. With more than 25 obstacles and hundreds of possible combinations he faces a difficult journey. But his ability to switch polarity at any time gives players the edge needed to succeed across seven themed procedurally-generated stages filled with traps such as pools of acid beneath sinking floors, pop-up walls that appear at the last second, and polarized obstacles that can only be survived by quickly swapping polarities.

Crafty players can collect charge cores to complete a sequence for extra points. If these sequences are chained together seven times ZIQ becomes Overcharged and can destroy those pesky polarity traps for additional points by opposing their polarity. Nabbing pickups at just the right time (ranging from good to perfect) affords even more points. Climb up the global leaderboard on the pile of nanites left behind with each excruciating death!
Indifferent to ZIQ’s suffering and deaths, Swarm is as generous with his insults as he is with fresh nanoforms. Voiced by YouTube’s Dash Star, Swarm is not content to simply torture ZIQ with an onslaught of deadly experiments. No no, he has to berate him the whole time, too! The better the player, the crueler Swarm becomes, increasing the difficulty of the stage. Fly through unforgiving stages in abstract sci-fi levels and watch as the dark synth music changes the environment, all while being incessantly heckled.

3D Realms are probably best known for their action titles. With games such as the Duke Nukem series, Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, Max Payne and the recent FPS Ion Maiden in their catalogue, it's kind of easy to miss that some of the early 3D Realms/Apogee games often explored other genres as well. And with the recent releases of Graveball and this game, it seems that 3D Realms are doing just what they did in the past. Picking up talented developers making fun games in all genres, and giving them some attention. ZIQ is by no means an action shooter like a lot of 3DR's library, but it does still fit in, in its own quirky way. Let's find out exactly how ZIQ can be called a 3D Realms title. ZIQ is straight up an arcade game. While there has been confirmed to be a definitive end to the experience by the creators, the goal is still to attain the highest score possible and rise up the leaderboards. You of course do this by accumulating points through gathering orbs on a track, avoiding obstacles along the way. The caveat is that you need to gather the orbs in a set sequence of two colors, orange and cyan. Once you've gathered one the sequence will count down before it resets until you…7 found this helpful
ZIQ is a very challenging runner that will keep you coming back to beat your score. The electronic music is great and will draw you in as the Tron like art pulses to the beat. I think it plays a lot better with a controller than keyboard and mouse, so I'd recommend using one if possible. I tried to rebind my triggers but it didn't seem to work like the other buttons did, later I noticed they already work for switching color and pulling orbs but you won't know that from the keybinds menu. The games scoring is based around pulling orbs while matching your color to a sequence at the top of the screen, you get more points the closer you are to the orb when you grab it. This sounds easy but it's harder than you'd think because you also have to switch your color to avoid traps. If you can finish multiple sequences in a row you'll end up triggering a mario star like deal where you're invincible to traps and can get extra points for blowing them up! The game also has a narrator that talks ♥♥♥♥ when you die, which is pretty funny. Once in a while he'll talk about some backstory, but it's mostly just making fun of your deaths. If you like arcade games you should check it out. tldr; Challeng…3 found this helpful
A pretty simplistic "runner" game, but I like its style. It tries to split your attention between scoring points and getting as far as you can, because unlike typical runners, this one has an end. Supposedly. I've never reached it, and I have a nearly top 10 in the world score. So if you like hard games, you will definitely get some enjoyment out of this. It's one of those games that keeps making you say "Just one more try."1 found this helpful

Good game made by an old friend.
A fresh and unique Indie game that will put your reflex's to the test. It might take your a hand full of games to master the "flow" of it but after that it is pure gaming at its finest! It's a hidden gem on Steam for sure. Kudos to the developer!
