Far Cry 6 sale: how low it goes, and whether to wait

A Far Cry 6 sale is not a rare event. The game has spent most of its life discounted somewhere, which makes the usual advice — wait for a sale — close to useless. The question worth asking is different: how far down does it actually go, and is the number in front of you today the floor or a waypoint?

As of today, 15 September 2026, the cheapest listing we track for Far Cry 6 is within a few cents of the lowest point in our entire price record for the game. That is the short answer. The longer answer explains why, which edition that price applies to, and the one trap that catches people buying Ubisoft games cheaply.

What a Far Cry 6 sale actually looks like

Two things move independently here, and conflating them is how people overpay.

The first is Ubisoft's own list price on Steam, which has never been cut. Three and a half years after the game reached Steam, the store page still carries the original launch sticker for the Standard Edition, and Deluxe, Gold and Game of the Year editions stack upward from it. Ubisoft discounts deeply and often, but it discounts from that unchanged number — it has never done what Valve calls a permanent price revision.

The second is the resale market, and that is where the real floor lives. We currently track seventeen separate offers for the game. The gap between the best official store price and the best keyshop price is wide enough that which one you look at determines whether this feels like a bargain or merely a discount.

Our record for the standard edition is clear about the shape of it: the price bounced up sharply in late August, roughly tripling from where it had been sitting, then fell back through early September to where it is now. That is not a sale ending and restarting. That is individual keyshops running out of cheap stock and restocking. Check the live number on the Far Cry 6 game page, because it genuinely does move week to week.

Why the price history is shorter than you expect

Far Cry 6 launched in October 2021 — but not on Steam. Ubisoft held it back for Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store, and Steam's own listing gives the release date as 11 May 2023, a nineteen-month gap.

This matters practically. Any price-history chart you find for the Steam version starts in mid-2023, so it misses the game's first and steepest discount cycle entirely. A "lowest ever on Steam" claim about Far Cry 6 is a claim about a shortened record, and the game was already heavily discounted elsewhere before Steam ever sold a copy. The edition maze, and what you can skip

Steam sells four versions: Standard, Deluxe, Gold and Game of the Year. Underneath them sit eight separate add-ons, and the names do not make the relationships obvious.

• Season Pass — the three villain episodes: Vaas: Insanity, Pagan: Control and Joseph: Collapse. These are roguelite-structured, short, and play nothing like the main game. They are the best content Ubisoft made for Far Cry 6 and also the most divisive.
• Lost Between Worlds — a separate expansion, not in the Season Pass. Sold on its own.
• Game of the Year Upgrade Pass — the bundling layer that folds the above into a Standard copy after the fact.
• HD Textures and Starter Pack — free and cosmetic-adjacent respectively. Ignore both unless you have the hardware and the inclination.

The practical advice: buy Standard. The villain episodes are genuinely good, but they are self-contained, they discount independently, and you will know within ten hours whether you want more Far Cry 6 at all. The Gold Edition has been tracking well above the standard copy all month in our record, and it buys you content you have not yet decided you want.

The Ubisoft trap: what you are actually buying

A cheap Far Cry 6 key is a Ubisoft Connect key more often than it is a Steam key, and the two are not interchangeable. Even the Steam version launches Ubisoft Connect underneath. That is not a reason to avoid the cheap listings, but it is a reason to read the product page before paying: check the platform and DRM the seller states, and check the region.

It is also on Game Pass

Worth checking before you spend anything: Far Cry 6 is currently on Game Pass. If you already subscribe, play it there first. Far Cry is a series people bounce off hard — the structure has barely changed since 2012 — and this is the cheapest possible way to find out which camp you are in.

Is it worth buying at all?

Steam has Far Cry 6 at Mostly Positive, around 71% across more than 35,000 reviews, and the recent window sits lower still, at Mixed. That is the weakest reception of any modern mainline Far Cry, and the complaints are consistent: the map is enormous but the activities repeat, the RPG-style gear tiers fight the sandbox, and Antón Castillo is barely in his own game.

What holds up is the sandbox itself. The guerrilla-camp structure, the improvised weapons, the genuinely good co-op, and a Caribbean setting the series had not used. At its current tracked price it is an easy recommendation on volume alone — there is a great deal of game here. At anything approaching list price it is not.

If you want the better Far Cry instead

Far Cry 5 sits at Very Positive across nearly 190,000 reviews — a substantially better-liked game that is older and therefore cheaper still. Far Cry 3 is the one that defined the template, and it discounts to almost nothing. Far Cry 4 is the underrated middle child. The bottom line

Buy the Standard Edition, from a keyshop, and buy it now rather than waiting for the next seasonal event. Today's tracked price is effectively the floor of our record, the list price it discounts from has not moved in three and a half years and will not, and the next Steam seasonal sale will not beat what the key market is already doing.

Skip Gold. If the villain episodes appeal after you have played the main campaign, buy them separately later — they discount on their own schedule, and you will have paid nothing for content you never touched.
