RAIN Project - a touhou fangame

I love Sanae

Surprisingly fun game. Great Soundtrack, decent platforming, and pretty good art. I really like the Tenshi boss fight, it made great use of the game's movement mechanics. I also like how the whole area you have to get through to get to Tenshi is completely optional, so you don't have to go through that really hard platforming segment if you don't want to. I really liked the Hina boss fight as well, I think the fight flowed really well. As for the Aya boss fight, I think it was pretty good, but I think her hitbox is kinda wonky, and her last spellcard(with the camera) is also kinda janky with the platform RNG, but it wasn't too bad outside of that. The one boss fight I just can't say anything good about is the Kanako boss fight, which is also the final boss. It's just too RNG based, and every time you lose, you have to go through the whole 1st phase and then the like 2 minute survival phase over and over again. There's also the fact that even if you trigger one of her cut-scenes, you can still get hit by a random attack and get hurt or die. I had this happen to me personally, I beat the whole fight, but I was on 1 heart, and when the cutscene triggered, her attacks didn't despawn an…

As of writing here, I have finally beaten last boss after 6 hrs of constant retry. I am never a avid bullet hell player. But I have finished it. Game is pretty unfair, to the same degree as the original megaman. But great game

Short and very sweet experience with a high level of challenge. Boss fights have a lot of randomness compared to Touhou's normal emphasis on bullet patterns, but every spellcard is learnable and can be beaten without taking damage. Also comes with some small rough edges, like spots of mismatched hit detection and needing to click through repeated dialogue after each death, which are easy enough to overlook. Otherwise, wonderfully responsive movement, pretty pixel art, and nice music arrangements. Best enjoyed for what it is. (Don't forget: always save your progress!)

RAIN project is a very hard game. I'm getting frustrated with its unreasonable design. Pros: +Good story. +Very good pixel art. +Nice music. Cons: -No controller support and Steam cloud. -Player can't change the default keys. -Every map is very complex. -Each boss or mid-boss is very difficult to defeat. -After you finished a quest, the NPC will not recover your HP. -There only a very few save points in the map. When Sanae died, player must move a long way to return the previous location. -No tutorials and in-game hints. It costs me several minutes to figure out how to control Sanae move and fight. But I still don't know how to use spellcards and what is the use of lighting a lampstand.
