TOUHOU DYSTOPIAN IS A PEAK ROGUELIKE MADE BY FANS FOR FANS! REVIEWED ON: (GeForce GT 1030/i7-3770 ) ✨ Honestly this game had me surprised from the start, and I did try this one off-Steam way back. Preserves it's Touhou vibes and difficulty while introducing us to a new combat perspective similar to that of NieR:Automata, and fun replayability. The game's performance is great, although the camera can be annoying for many sometimes. There is a learning curve to it all, and the game is not easy nor hard, but define by your style as a player, the choices you make, and how fast and smart you are after experiencing defeat. While I'm a fan of Touhou, it's lore, and Waifus, I'm always rusty at the games since it's not like I'm playing them nonstop, compared to other people who prioritize them and enjoy the tough gameplay. Took me a while to reach Alice Margatroid boss, and that's where I left off for now. This said, from what I experience so far the game is quite enjoyable for fans and non-fans probably. ✨ This is an action roguelike, so expect yourself to be constantly entering rooms/dungeons, fighting minor waves or enemies to get resources, upgrade your stats or skills before ent…10 found this helpful
This is one of the very few third-person action roguelites I know, and I had a lot of fun with it. The combat is on point. Every character has their own fighting style, and I like that the game rewards you with extra Gems for picking a random character. It gives you a reason to play someone other than your favorite. The progression is also well balanced. Your character becomes stronger through perks, companions, and upgrades, while you also improve with every run. But it never reaches the point where you can just turn your brain off and win. I do wish the game had a bit more polish though. Fighting the bosses in the same order every run gets repetitive. I'd love to see a way to randomize them. The first bosses become easy simply because you've fought them so many times, while the later ones stay harder because you barely get to practice them. There is a practice mode, but I usually end up just playing normal runs instead since setting up a build for every practice attempt feels a bit clunky. Combat is a little inconsistent too. Some enemies flash almost a second before attacking, while others barely give you any warning at all. Since the timing isn't consistent, reactin…2 found this helpful
This is the first review I've ever written, but I HAD to express how much I'm loving this game. It took a couple of separate attempts to figure out how to navigate the combat - alongside some experimentation with the camera & controller settings. But once it clicked, I was BLOWN AWAY by how satisfying this thing is to play. This game has some really cool meta-progression aspects and a shocking amount of depth. Vastly different character playstyles, hidden mechanics, and the perfect amount of RNG that rewards legitimate strategizing & flexibility. Also, as I'm writing this review, I just discovered this game was made by A SINGLE DEVELOPER!? Cheers to you Kay Lnk! 10/101 found this helpful
Super fun game, not very long though. There are tons of build ideas and if you know what you are doing you can do insane amounts of damage. That being said its still not the easiest game so you still have to put effort in while you are absolutely styling on enemies
cool game
Extremely satisfying gameplay, great replay loop, awesome to encounter the touhou characters in a game like this. I know its a solo dev effort, but would happily pay for skin packs.
